Mary and Norris have kept their upcoming nuptials a secret so far, but as we now know, secrets don’t stay secret too long in soapland. And so it goes with Mary and Norris’ Weatherfield wedding – their secret is out before they can do anything about it.
It all starts when Mary speaks to her son Jude via a video call on a laptop in Dev’s. When Aadi and Asha let slip about the wedding, Mary is forced to admit to Jude that she’s marrying Norris.
Mary tells Norris that Jude knows about their wedding and she hates the idea of lying to him that they’re getting married to win a competition prize. Norris urges Mary to come clean but he’s aghast when Mary reveals that Jude’s flying his family over for their wedding so they will have to pretend it’s genuine!
When Tracy hears that Norris and Mary are getting married, she reckons it’s a wind up and makes jibes at the pair, suggesting the wedding will be nothing more than a circus. (And this from the woman who got Roy Cropper into bed to win a bet for a penny and then married him pretending that her baby was Roy’s when it was Steve’s? Oh yes, Tracy Barlow knows all about weddings as a circus!).
Desperate to protect Mary, Norris says he couldn’t be happier.
