This week's Inside Soap magazine has a possible teaser about what might happen at the cafe when Roy is away.
As we know, actor David Neilson is taking a break from Coronation Street to star in a Samuel Beckett play with Chris Gascoyne. You can read more on that here and we'll be bringing you two separate reviews from the show by our bloggers Stevie and Emma.
While David's away the show, Roy gets called away to help his mum Sylvia after she falls and hurts herself.
And in his absence, here's what might happen to the cafe... Inside Soap say that as Roy prepares to leave, Alex - the nephew of Cathy Matthews - returns and reveals that he's unemployed. Roy offers him a job working in Roy's Rolls while he's away. But how will Alex fare in Roy's absence?
Well, there you have it. It appears that Cathy and Alex might be running the cafe while Roy's away, presumably with Anna's help.
What do you think about that?

More staring at the camera and gurning then.
More rubbish from a fading show past sell by date
Why on earth wouldn't Anna be the person to run the café?
Yes, obviously Anna should be in charge, with help from Cathy and her nephew. Would be good if they showed the Downs Syndrome character holding down a steady job instead of just getting drunk and disappearing, which is all they've done with him so far.
I also agree that it should be Anna in charge not Cathy and with Mary and Alex helping out.Unfortunately,I think Cathy with her hoarding\slovenly habits will cause a disaster in Roy's Rolls.
I also find it contrived that after months of being absent that Alex shows up unemployed just as Roy is leaving to tend to his ill mother.
Whatever...could be just as easy to send the characters of Cathy, Nessa, and Alex packing. Cast cleaning, 3 down, pure and simple. I know it's actor's losing their jobs, but lets face it, a new regime always means actors getting the axe. It's going to happen.
Do any of these new workers get food hygiene training? Good story there perhaps when Cathy mixes raw and cooked meat. Come to think of it, how do health and safety considerations allow Tracy to go into the Bistro restaurant just as she likes?
... Bistro kitchen just as she likes? ...
I don't see what the problem is - Roy leaves to take care of his mum, Alex & Cathy help Anna in the bistro. Win, win, all around. It seem that Cathy & Anna get along well together so that should work. Not sure about the addition of Alex though, not to sound mean, but I hope they aren't giving him work just because he is disabled, that isn't fair to anybody else who is disabled and can't find work. Look at Izzy, she has been on the show for a couple of years now and is simply reduced to background at the factory, not really fair for her capabilities. Didn't she also write a theater script not too long ago??
Not to be unkind in any way and nothing personal whatsoever against the actress but why is Izzy still on the show? Her entire family moved away she is separated from her partner we never, ever see her child time for her to go.
I will really miss our Roy...should be fun to watch Cathy, Anna and Alex holding down the fort....sure to include lots of laughs and drama!! Roy and Cathy are certainly making a great couple...I didn't know if I would enjoy Cathy stepping into Hayley's shoes...but....am pleasantly surprised that she is turning into a great companion for Roy.....
Oh remember the fun Alma and Gail used to have running the cafe? I think Anna and Cathy could follow in those footsteps. Perhaps Mary could join them. Three Musketeers, it could work.
Anyone but Mary. She is bossy, pig headed, never listens to anyone (except to criticize) and is probably the worst team player in the street. She can't hold a normal conversation and only spews rivers of nonsense. Not the kind of employee a small business needs. Besides she has a job. And, honestly, I'm not sure hiring Alex, who will very likely need extra guidance, is a great idea, either.
I did like the times when Ken filled in. At least there'd be dialog, as I'm sure he and Cathy would have interesting conversations. Oh well, it's a done deal. Onward.
Hastily thrown together storyline IMO. Rebounding characters constantly and others jumping ship. Now, Gail wants in floor heating in her room...like the character's got loads of dosh to toss around. We have another go-round with Phelan and the air-gulping Anna to look forward to for the foreseeable. I have my doubts that David N. will return to Corrie. Ken and Audrey? Can this nonsense stop soon?
I think Alex working in the cafe is a great idea. It's strange that Nessa and the writers all seemed to forget about Alex's existence, and now she'd left the show he's going to turn up. Does that mean we haven't seen the last of Nessa?
