Brooke talks about her new boyfriend, her relationship with Michael Le Vell, who plays her on-screen dad Kevin and reveals a lot about Sophie's Christmas Day storyline when she meets her new girlfriend.
On Corrie's Christmas Day episode, Sophie meets her new girlfriend, homeless Maddie Heath, as she works in a soup kitchen on Christmas Day. Brooke says: “Maddie shakes things up, she’s very much a Kylie Platt or Becky McDonald character but a lot worse. She’s very demanding and hard to read – you’re intrigued by her. I think she’s a good match for Sophie, who stands her ground with her. They’re both feisty and want to get one over on each other. Sophie likes her because she’s naughty.”
But Sophie's mum Sally takes an instant dislike to Maddie - and Sally ends up with her face covered in trifle. Now that's going to be worth watching!
Sophie's girlfriend Maddie Heath will be played by actress Amy Kelly.

Ye Gods, a great actor like Phillip Laurie aka Dennis Tanner has to leave because he is not utilsed and they bring in another girlfrend for this boring moaning mumbling poorly acted brat!
And again, this character is 'feisty'. Yawn, so a loud mouthed female character who will be completely obnoxious. Don't we have enough of this as it is.
Why do soaps insist on keeping up those cliche descriptions. 'Feisty' 'explosive' 'shakes up'. We have heard it all before and have long learnt not to get excited over stuff like that.

I too am not looking forward to this. Michael Le V is coming back so I guess Sophie's pairing up with a 'bad girl' is part of the 'explosive' storyline with the Websters.
Wake me when it's over.

Here we go again, shouty, pouty moaning minnies. It's a merry-go- round of boredom.
No one character bores me as much as Sophie, so needless to say, any girlfriend of hers; explosive, feisty, troubled, whatever, doesn't excite me much.
What viewers are the writers aiming their sharply honed pens at anyway?
Why can't Sophie's new girlfriend be one who inspires her to better her education and life? (I like Sophie, by the way, and would love to see her have a positive storyline.
Also, is this not just a rewrite of the Sophie/Dennis/then Rita storyline?

Bev i was thinking along those lines as well. Maybe this new girlfriend can push Sophie back out into the world to get some education or a good career.
They really need to stir Sophie's character up; she's as stale as Kevin and they can both go, for all I care.
I've said it before (more than once), Sophie should train to be a social worker. She'd gain qualifications that match her intelligence, she'd have an outlet for her Christian social conscience, and she wouldn't earn a great deal, so it wouldn't lack credibility if she continued to live on the Street. AND there are many story lines that could spring from her vocation.
Same too with Todd - why can't he still be a lawyer? He may not then live on the Street (it was never a problem having Mike Baldwin live somewhere more upmarket) but he could still have an office nearby, because of a working class clientele. How many law-related stories have there been the past few years? He'd never be underemployed, that's for sure!!
Agree that Sophie is one of the most boring characters on this show...I'd like to see all the Websters just leave. There are plenty of other characters who deserve storylines more than Sophie and the rest of the Websters.

I could not agree more. Sadly, they are leaving as a result of this imbalance.

Ugh....not another girlfriend for Sophie.I know they feel the need to keep jamming the gay social conscience down our throats and I am OK with that, but this is just not interesting. I really don't give a fig who Sophie is dating, or Katie or Chesney for that matter. I am an adult and their story lines are just not interesting to me for the same reason I don't watch teen movies. Whether or not a teen gets snogged or steals a boyfriend is just not on my radar of interests. To me these are back stories, not front and center.I do not believe that Corrie has a strong teen demographic, so why push these stories and leave more interesting people on the back shelf?
The Simon bullying story line is interesting because it involves families coping with the situation. Not so much with Sophie and her silly girlfriends...and the Jenna thing was just a complete unwatchable disaster from the start.
They need a gay story, fine. Give Sean a proper relationship. He has been on the show a long time and is now like wallpaper who throws out a few quips now and then. He's paid his dues. How about making him grow and keep a good relationship? Why do they have to make all the gay relationships such disasters (or all the relationships for that matter)? In my world, the gay couples I know are the most solid and long lasting of all my friends.
These writers just do not get it.
