I’ve got to thinking over the past couple of weeks what new producer Stuart Blackburn may have in store for the delectable Sally Webster.
Sally has had an awfully quiet year. Popping up to offer comfort and respite to old friend Gail Mac; the occasional sly remark or brown nosing in the factory; a rather amusing drunken evening in the Rovers; and that’s really about it.
Kevin’s off the scene in Germany for the foreseeable future, Rosie’s down in that there London pursuing a questionable TV career, and Sophie’s all grown up with new girlfriend Jenna and a cushy corner shop job – so perhaps it’s time to introduce a new man into Sally’s life. We’ve seen hints of this already with the delightful little tale of Sally’s internet dating woes, with a helping hand from Sophie and Jenna. I, for one, loved seeing Sally’s lighter side and the glint in her eye again.
Just last week, we saw hints of a possible dalliance between Sally and Public Enemy Number One, Tim Metcalfe. It will most likely fritter away into nothing, but all the same it’s nice to see Sally having some male contact for a change.
I’d like to put it out there that since we have a new, single male hotfooting his way to Weatherfield in the near future, perhaps Sally could bag herself a toyboy in the form of army bad lad, Kal? A fun new direction for Ms Webster is what’s needed, and I personally think Kal could be the one to put the spark back into our Sal! What do you think?

I think hooking Sally up with the new toyboy is a horrible idea. It will surely end in tears and then what? She will be back to dreary Sally again. How about introducing a real man? To think of Sally with Tim is disgusting.
Sally and Tim could be an unusual combination, it'd be interesting to see how that pans out!
A relationship with Sally may be what Tim's character needs, as we'd hopefully see more dimensions to him. So far all we've seen is Tim in his capacity of Fay(e)'s dad, a role in which he seems rather deficient. After all, Joe Dutine is an actor of some note, so let's see him show what he can do.
Sal and Kal might be too much like Stella and Jason. DO we need to go there? She is wealthy from her half of the lottery money. Either Rob could try to scam her out of it (too much like Lewis) or she sets up as her own boss in a business (been done too with the hardware store). I would reunite her with an aunt or sibling. Let her show off with half-truths that then get exposed. Or that sleazy car dealership guy who abused her returns, but he is now a broken man. At first she is pleased at his misfortune, then feels sorry for him. She heals somewhat by her encounter.
Why does she need to have a man? Can't she do something else? Establish a business? Or something different?
If any woman on the Street is primed to start her own business and give Carla a run for her money, it's our Sally! At her age, it's just pathetic that she'd even bother running around after men when she has so much drive, creativity and cash at hand! Come on Corrie - give Sally a business to run!!!
I think Sally should get together with that Ian again. He tells her he's divorced but it's a lie; but by then it's too late. She's fallen for him and accepts her fate as the other woman...
She doesn't need another man for godsake..she needs a business to run..have Sophie and Jenna working for her instead of Dev. She could front a physio clinic..hire Gail as the recepitonist..Jenna could work there. Men schmenn...time to get away from that mentality..women do not need a man to make them complete.
I've said it befor, Sally should run for council and become a Weatherfield councillor :)
Sally is one of the few adults who has tried to stretch herself through studying. I say give her a business AND make her a councillor!
Bev
Agree wholeheartedly that Sally does not need a man. She's sharp-witted, ambitious, and these days has got some cash behind her. Definitely give her a business to run and she can employ other women. I could see her running a party plan business, or perhaps a wedding outfitters which would bring out the snob in her. Maybe a man is attracted to her because she's so successful and she tells him where to go.
Oh Yes! A business in party planning, special occasion consulting. Mary would be dying to put her hip waders in there. I don't really like the character of Mary but I think she and Sally could be wonderful as a double act! Would be the building of Sally and the redemption of Mary. It would also leave plenty of options for short term stories as the customers wouldn't all be local.
I think she should study law; there are more serial killers living on that street than in Los Angeles. The police are always making inquiries round there...
Sally has always been aspirational - not just in her home and business life, but she even studied for A levels with John Stape (whatever happened to that, btw? Did she pass with A*?). It would be great to see her set up in some sort of business, perhaps even with Tim (who I am liking now that his parenting credentials have been sorted out)and Ryan, perhaps investing in the building business and trying to run something she knows absolutely nothing about!
What's to stop Sally from going back to school? She has the time & the money. She could take business courses & get a commerce degree. It would set an example for her daughters and for her neighbours. Then she could start a business again with more training and a better chance of succeeding.
mmm a character taking business courses and sitting exams. SET THE SKY+
Maybe she could start up a hardware business in the old butcher's shop... oh, wait a minute...
Set up a business with Tim, then relationship develops & they make a home for his daughter, one in the eye fir annoying Anna.
I would love to see Sally and Gail move in together. It could be like a Northern 'Golden Girls' with plenty room for comedy!
Anonymous right above me, that is exactly what I was thinking! Sally needs to get Sophie out of the house and let Gail move in.
Oh Anon, good idea about putting Sally and Mary together in a party/occasion planning business. I think they would play well off each other.
Dolly Tubb - was that a typo 'Ryan'? Why on earth would Sally even remotely think of that waste of space if she was setting up a business - he almost got Sophie killed, is shiftless, a liar and has no ambition beyond the next girl and drink.
The idea of making Sally & Mary party planners conjures up some great scenarios, but That's not a business that could be very profitable among the locals. They don't have that kind of dosh to throw around. Sally and Mary don't have the right connections or pedigrees for such an enterprise.
Sally & Tim - no way!
Sally & Sophie should open a clothing shop that focuses in on the Gay community and perhaps Sally could find happiness with a good woman. They made Marcus change colours so why not Sally.
