In Gail we trust . . .

As Gail Potter-Tilsley-Tilsley-Platt-Hillman-MacIntyre begins her 39th year on t'cobbles, it would appear to be 'business as usual' for the hapless floor scrubber. In the past few years, we have seem Gail metamorphose from cheerless harridan to loopy lav cleaner. Hurrah for that. The old Gail was a bit of a drain on sympathy and at one point, it was commonplace for this blogger to bellow "Oh just hurry up and die" every time she appeared on screen.

Die though, Gail did not. Instead, the rubbish receptionist has re-invented herself as caring gran, concerned mother and would-be bar hostess. However, our Gail has always enjoyed a bit of male company in the same way that a scorpion enjoys a bit of a sting. Therein lies the problem for poor old Lewis Archer. For all his moustache-twirling, cape-swirling outdated evil posturing, he does not seem to have weighed up the challenge that is Gail Mac. Over the years she has disposed of a bore, a wimp, a serial killer and a loon. Her other men-friends are few and far between but we can only applaud 1980s dullard 'Jeff' and ridiculously tall Phil Nail for having escaped, although the idea of Gail Nail was almost too good to resist.

Lewis does not seem to realise what a force of destruction Gail can be. All he can hear is the gigglesome voice and see her batting her eyelashes like a Hanoverian trollop. Deep down though, does Gail have something else in mind? Surely she realises what a liaison with Lewis would do to poor old Aud and therefore should not even entertain the idea. Or is Gail silently planning her own revenge on the philandering wine waiter? Will Mrs Mac be serving up a deadly cocktail at the Bistro? Will this temptress in a tabard surprise us all with her terrifying quest for justice? Probably not.

Gail Potter-Tilsley-Til . .. etc, a nation waits! While we wait though, could you give those urinals a quick once-over?

All those cleaning fumes must have damaged her brain..I cannot stand this character acting all coy and shy..it's gag-worthy.

I agree I don't understand what the writers have done with her. She is supposed to be a cleaner - who cleans while there are customers eating. Then suddenly she is a waitress and taking reservations. What gives? She really needs to butt out of her son's lives and find one of her own NOT with her Mother's ex!

I love Gail! She's had her ups and downs and she's a joy to watch, whether she's happy or miserable or interfering. I think it's so apt that she has turned into Ivy Tilsley and I am glad they're still giving her great storylines!

I disagree totally with those who say that Gail has turned into Ivy Tilsley.
Ivy was bitter, twisted and downright nasty. Gail is many things, but not THOSE things.
I am enjoying the character of Gail, though she often annoys me immensely. As she must annoy her sons and her mother!

Thanks for giving me a chortle over my coffee Clinkers.. "gigglesome voice" indeed! I love to be irritated by Gail.. she is the perfect self-righteous mother/daughter/grandmother.. always sticking her nose in and then saying (while blinking furiously) "I did it to protect you!"

Gail is the girl who never grew up. Despite her many life experiences, she has not learned a thing. As a teen she was the more mature one of Tricia or Suzie. Yet she remains naive, still trusting, still superficial, still after a romance no matter the consequences. Unfortunately that is not unusual. Most people manage to go through life without learning a thing.

Gail's so-called romance with Lewis proves she was bored witless before he came along. She got her kicks out of interfering in her family's affairs and if it were to be a real relationship, she'd probably tell them all to get a life - and so she should. I think she is fooled at the moment but maybe Lewis takes one too many chances and she rumbles him. It then becomes a case of 'who's kidding who?' I loved the chat between Gail and Sally. Wonder who wrote that episode; we need more stuff like that.
