There's going to be a special documentary all about Anne Kirkbride, who plays Coronation Street's Deirdre Barlow, airing on ITV1 next month.
The documentary is called Deirdre And Me and will celebrate Anne's 40 years on Coronation Street. According to The Sun today, Anne will talk about her battles with cancer and clinical
depression.
It will also cover the
“Free Deirdre” campaign and the “Weatherfield One” story and Anne also tells of her grief when actress
and close friend Maggie Jones, who played on-screen Corrie mum Blanche Hunt, died.
Anne says she has no plans to leave the Street: “I certainly have no intention of going – I’m very happy to stay.” That's good to hear.
The one-hour documentary Deirdre and Me will air on November 13 on ITV1.

Wow, I guess I really never knew anything about Anne. For example, her struggle with cancer that she's followed up with ceaseless smoking. I'm also concerned that life on the Cobbles is tougher in real life than we can imagine, as Anne is not alone in her struggle with depression. Very unfortunate.
Surprised she is suddenly doing ths interview as Anne shunned the limelight for years. Heard rumours she is not the nicest person in 'real life'. I think she should count herself very lucky indeed to be on the Corrie gravy train.
Well I'm glad she's not going anywhere. Diedre may have her faults, like constantly defending that drop kick of a daughter and puffing away more than Thomas the Tank Engine....but she's kind of like that old comfy pair of slippers you've gotten used to and can't bear to throw away.
Actually she is one of the nicest and down-to-earth of the Corrie cast in 'real life'.
She did a doc called 'Deirdre and Me' a number of years ago, it's even included in the 50th Anniversary DVD Boxed set. I wonder if this is all new, or just that old one with more recent stuff tacked onto it.
I'd be interested to know where you heard that, Frosty? I have heard quite the opposite: that she is very friendly and down to earth.
Anne is lovely in real life, just not overly keen on the limelight. This in large is why she has lasted 40 years. There is something to be said in being an actress rather than a celebrity. Can you imagine some of the newer cast today celebrating in 40 years or will we have seen all we want to have seen of the likes of Tina in just a couple more?- Micky
I saw that same documentary and she really did come across as really nice and down to earth.......cleaning fetish and all....lol.
I enjoyed Anne on Twitter - real shame that she left although I understand why - so will definitely tune in.
Wasn't the first Dierdre And Me soon after her Dad died? I was also struck with how down to earth she was and what a nice woman she was.
I've only ever heard that Anne is prone to emotion on set (i.e. tears) but never heard anything about her being unpleasant to anyone. I suppose perhaps she can become frustrated working with little to nothing interesting on what I've heard is a crazy work schedule for all Corrie staff?
