Phillip Lowrie, who plays Dennis Tanner, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest gap between TV appearances in the same programme, which is of course Coronation Street.
Phillip was absent from the cobbles for 43 years between 1968 and 2011 and he talked about this gap when he was presented with this award. He hinted that viewers may soon find out what Dennis was up to in that time as characters from Dennis's past could soon be appearing on the street.
Phillip said: "It was a complete surprise to get this. There was a rumour when I started but I'd completely forgotten about it.”

I'm surprised it didn't go to the fella that plays Jed Stone. The difference must have been very close.
Just one year(1966-2008: 42 years).
Why has this terrible actor and piece of deadwood got this award? what has he exactly done to achieve this? You know, he didnt leave in 1968 thinking "I will wait around 40 years to return and pick up a record". What next? Shortest departure? Rubbish. And why bring back an actor who was terrible in the 1960s era and long forgotten? Just an excuse to up the deadwood I see, which is Corrie's only strong point. Please axe this useless man. At least Jed Stone (the wonderful Kenneth Cope) had a storyline, and was a good actor. He wasnt in it long, but still had a lot of storyline and probably is still remembered, more than this piece of deadwood.
It's funny isn't it? - Some people just don't get it? I've been watching Corrie for far longer than I care to say. When Dennis Tanner came back onto the scene - I recognised him immediately and it brought all kinds of memories flooding back from the 1960's. As to whether he is a 'deadwood' as 'anonymous' described him - well I will happily leave that to those that are far more qualified to assess an actor's abilities. I'm very pleased to see him back - I just hope we don't have YET another serial killer on the street as, frankly - I have had just about enough of that!!! I hope only GOOD things come out of his past - It's about time we had something to cheer and laugh about on the street... just like it was originally intended.
