One of the comments on this post about Phil Collinson, regarding his comments in an interview about the past not really mattering got me thinking, as these things do. In spite of that, we do know that Mr. C seems to continue to give a nod to the past just the same and that's where I'm going with this blog post.
Remembering and incorporating Coronation Street's past should always be part of the canvas even though the show must always look forward, too. But there are some storylines they seem to have completely erased from their memory, hoping we will forget too and sometimes, that's not a bad thing. Have a read and see what you think.

That was a lovely blog and every word rang true. The worst thing the producers could do to Corrie is to forget it's past..those houses and that street have been there for decades before most of the characters..there is history there..
Another storyline that was dropped without explanation (and wasn't mentioned in your article) is the one where Janice Battersby was studying to become a nurse.......however, it now just seems to have been forgotten about by the writers (which is a bit ridiculous!).
Janice didn't get too far with the nurse thing and ended up taking first aid and did end up helping little Josh when he had the allergic reaction to a bee sting. It wasn't dropped really so much as changed direction as Janice really wasn't capable of the course work for nursing.
Corrie's long history, and more importantly, the willingness of actors to stick with it, over decades in numerous cases, means it's uniquely placed to run some storylines. Emily's coming face to face with Ernest's killer a couple of years back was the culmination of a 30 year story arc! Similarly we were able to see characters like Mike Baldwin meeting the teenage son he'd never known after getting Maggie Dunlop pregnant - and another similar storyline coming up for Ken. Only Coronation Street has the longevity of characters to be able to do these stories and that past adds so much depth to the drama. They must forget it at their peril!
Thank you for responding to my comment and I wholeheartedly agree with you Tvor.
Great blog. I suspect it summarises how most of us would like Corrie to continue. I totally agree that some storylines are best forgotten (Michelle/Ryan/Alex) and others (the relationship beween new-found sisters Eileen and Julie) seem to wither on the vine.
