Anyone wondering where Gail's dad Ted is at the moment, when all the cops are hanging round chez Platt, and you'd think he'd be there to support his daughter? No offence, but isn't Michael Byrne a bit old to play young Romeo or is it a senior citizen version of the play?
I think he's brilliant in Corrie (though he also does an awfully good "Nazi"). Hope we see him again soon.
CSC: I think it's a new version of Romeo and Juliet with two oldies in the lead parts. Interesting.
Aha, i don't know why but i hadn't even though why he's not there. I love Ted, i do. He'd soon slap some sense into Gail.
It's a new version called 'Juliet & her Romeo', in which the romantic leads are geriatric and being kept apart by their feuding kids. Astonishing how this idea should have surfaced just now; I was recently involved with a really innovative RSC production called 'A Tender Thing' which also has an elderly Romeo & Juliet as its focus, although this one was really about assisted suicide and used the language of the original play but in a completely different context to alter its meaning. The result was dream-like and deeply moving, but isn't it odd how two such similar concepts should surface at the same time.
Hope it's a short run and that Ted's back soon. Gail is going to need him!
It's an interesting concept, though. I bet it would be a lot better than the usual R&J, one of my least favourite Shakespeare plays.
And i want to know where Tina's mother is!
Good question, Tvor. She was only in one or two episodes, wasn't she? Even though it was established that she and Tina have an uneasy relationship, she should still be around for her daughter at a time like this. I mean, good God, even Jackie Dobbs has turned up to fight Tyrone's corner for him, and his problems aren't a matter of life & death!
I'd quite like to see interaction between the two Mrs McIntyres, particularly as Gail slips ever closer to the chokey ...
