Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 12th December

Summer and Aaron - Coronation Street - ITV

Amy is literally the only sensible person on the street, isn't she? She counsels Summer to tell Esther and Mike about the miscarriage "then it will all be over". If only, Amy, if only! Summer plans to tell the creepy Christians after the fake 12 week scan, in which the fun sponge couple sit around the hospital for an hour waiting for Esther and Mike (who've given them a lift) to disappear. What do these two do that they don't need to be at work during the day and have seemingly limitless amounts of cash? Televangelists? Harvester of children's organs? Tory MPs?

Inconveniently, Esther gets a call to say her mother has suddenly died, which gives Summer yet another excuse to put off telling them the truth, but they find out anyway, when she tries to fake a picture of the scan, which Mike sees through straight away and also finds out she took their money after the miscarriage happened. "You're disgusting," he tells her.

Talking of disgusting, Tyrone is starring in his very own episode of Don't Tell The Bride and is going through with the very stupid idea of organising the Fizrone wedding for Xmas Day. Xmas Day is for eating too much, falling asleep in front of the TV and arguing with your relatives, you can't drag them out of the house! Also registrars don't tend to want to work on a bank holiday and churches will be busy with mangers and Jesus and stuff. The disgusting bit is the dress that he and Gemma have chosen, which must have been in the bargain bin for a good few years given that it's a kind of '80s ra-ra wedding dress. "It's going to be best day of our lives!" claims Tyrone, which is a bit like saying: This is going to be the best Christmas Weatherfield's ever had!

Daisy and Daniel in the pub in Corrie

In other couple news, double D have a falling out when Daniel spots an article in a mag that Bethany has written, which leads him to start writing his own personal piece for publication (perhaps) and then won't let Daisy see it. She is ridiculously jealous, he is ridiculously secretive and insensitive. So a few weeks of arguing and then a Christmas day reconciliation?

KEN - WENDY - MARTHA - ITV - CORONATION STREET

And finally, Mary, Brian and some extras who haven't bothered to turn up to any previous rehearsals put the final touches to the play and WFC puts the final touches to Ken as she says she just wants to be friends. This leaves our Ken free to run off to Hull with Martha who is putting on her one woman play there. Bit parky this time of year, Hull. As Dame Shirley Bassey said: "It's just a little bit of history repeating," but I suspect that this time, instead of choosing between two women, Ken'll end up being dumped by both of them.

I felt it didn't ring true for Ken to let Martha think he had dumped Wendy. He may be a womaniser, but he is basically honest. I like the way it played out though. Martha was nicer than in the past, worrying about Wendy's feelings. She never gave two hoots about Deirdre. Then Wendy going to Hull with her new friend was a touch of genius.
