Well, royalists and republicans alike have made it through the last twelve days and we're back to normal. Brands have changed their Facebook headers from queen to product, newsreaders are allowed to wear colours again, and everything has been de-greyscaled.
Are things back to normal on the Cobbles? Of course not. We've finished one murder plot, Toyah's, (although to my (non-legally trained) mind, she should've have been tried for attempted murder since it was a heart attack that killed Imran, not car crash) and we're bang in the middle of another one after Shazza's reveal that it was Gangsta Gazza who killed Rotten Rick. Kelly is plotting to avenge his most foul and most unnatural murder. She starts seeing visions of her dad, who quotes Shakespeare at her à la Hamlet's papa, which I guess makes Gary Claudius? Maria, Gertrude? Is Aadi Ophelia? Are we going to see him floating down the shipping canal? (Dev is definitely Polonius). I do hope Kelly does not use Mary's am-dram play Roxanna to try and trap Gary into a confession.
Coincidentally, Kelly's kidnapper has been arrested, so she goes into the cop shop. After Todd has refused to recommend a handy local gangster, she fails to identify Kieron and then, tracking him down outside the station, offers him ten big ones to kill Gary. I'm pretty sure that there is CCTV outside police stations?
Todd gives Gary the heads up about Kelly looking on gangsteradvisor.com and he asks her about it and her attempt to release some money from her trust fund, but she says she needs the money for a holiday. He okays the withdrawal and Kelly pays Kieron to do the deed.
After Leo failed to fix the sinkhole last time, it's surprising he's asked back to try to fix it once more. Still, along with the fabulous Glenda, he knows a bad 'un when he sees one and he joins the short list of people who are suspicious of Stephen. I for one am glad that Stephen has come back from Canada/Milan with a dark side, rather than just existing to turn up every few years to give one of the junior Platts a job. He's such a dull character that becoming a baddie enlivens him somewhat and of course desperate businessman is a trope that Corrie does very well (c.f. Richard Hillman, Joe "He's a good man" McIntyre - they all seem drawn to the Platts, don't they?) Anyhoo, he sees that Stephen (who previously tried to get rid of Audrey and Gail by booking them into a spa) is anxious about the Platts staying in Grasmere Drive whilst the sinkhole is sinking. Was he planning to sell the house whilst Aud was having a seaweed wrap? Later, we see him living in his car and telling his ex-wife things are moving along nicely and Leo witnesses this too.
Meanwhile, Bernie sorts through some old clothes in Roy's flat (for £) and offers to take them to the charity shop, because they've build a set for it now (Emily Bishop must be very annoyed - all those years working there and she never got a set). Unfortunately, Hayley's anorak is in the box. Bernie and Nina ring 'round the charity shops to try to get it back.

Mary and Nina are the true blue friends who needs to be grappled to the soul with hoops of steel! Kelly and Summer both the "new-hatch'd, unfledged comrade(s)" who should not be given pride of place. And of course, what better advice for the Devster himself than "costly thy habit as thy purse can buy/But not express'd in fancy; rich, not gaudy..."?
