The next few months will see sadness on the Street as we watch Hayley's demise to pancreatic cancer. And already my thoughts are turning to who might be there to wave her goodbye.
The most obvious person to this fan, is for Becky McDonald to return for Hayley's funeral.
Actress Katherine Kelly, who played Becky, has gone on to do some wonderful work since leaving the Street and is currently playing s a ruthless newspaper editor in the second series of the acclaimed BBC1 drama The Field Of Blood.
But could Becky return for Hayley's final farewell - and do you think she should?
Maybe Hayley's son could turn up and cause a bit of bother, hoping for some money from her will? Or could Hayley's Uncle Bert return to say goodbye - or did he pop off, anyone know?

I don't see Becky's return adding much. It might well be realistic for an old friend to come back for the funeral but, as others have said, it would spoil the dynamics between Haley, Roy and Sylvia. So far, the scripts and the acting have been first class. I hope the story doesn't get spoilt with sensationalist, ratings-grabbing scenes. The Alzheimer's and the domestic violence sls were wrecked by completely unnecessary affairs. The race row has degenerated into playground squabbling. We don't need Becky. Let's just enjoy the master class that a superb trio of actors are providing.
Absolutely... if this were real life, and someone that close to the deceased did not show up, it would have a much bigger impact to the story than them being there, paying their respects and moving on. I don't think we are asking for a 5 episode story arch for Becky, just having her be there would add to the emotion (and drama) of the day. I just can't imagine, in real life, she wouldn't be there.
Of course she should. It isn't even like she's in Australia now, she's only a 2 hour flight away. She was a mother figure for her for 5 years. She should definitey come back but I don't think she will. Once characters leave the show these days, they usually never return unless in a high profile storyline. Back in the 60's and 70's characters that were axed like Concepta Regan and Esther Hayes came back numerous times in the late 60's and 70's but sadly that trend has stopped.

Real life and soap-land would have Becky attempt to say good bye properly to Hailey. It would be complicated to have her drop in and out, but in the real world, that's how it goes. It would be a major treat if she did.
Well if half the old cast didnt come back for Betty's funeral then it wont happen here. Becky would only get drunk anyhow let her keep away. It will be interesting to see if Hailey's "son" returns as he hasnt been mentioned for some considerable time.
If she returned sober and paid her respects to Roy and attended the visitation and funeral, then left - sure, it's a good idea. But if she's gonna be a drunken Becky who "steals the show" from Hayley's immediate family, making herself the centre of attention, then absolutely not.

I don't think it is necessary. We know this not real life so we accept when Janice, Les and Toyah did not attend Leann's wedding. Hayley would have touched many people's lives and in real life some may show up or send regards. A simple telegram from Becky or text would suffice.
I doubt Hayley's son will come back. I think that's another storyline that's been swept under the carpet and one we're supposed to pretend never happened. Hayley hasn't any idea where he is anyway. I would love to see Becky return but she probably won't. I really hope she gets a mention at least.
I can't imagine Becky not being there to say goodbye to Hayley.
It would be great to see her with a sophisticated hair cut, posh clothes, and a sober smile. I would enjoy the interaction between her and Kyle now that she's nearly ready for the birth.
I would love to see her return and have a storyline with Hayley before she dies, however, given her connection to the street (a pregnant sister, Max) it wouldn't be"real" if she didn't stick around for a bit of time. I do hope though that they will acknowledge her relationship with Hayley and Roy by way of mentioning that she sends her condolences or showing flowers she has sent.
Yes, bring her back and pregnant!
Only if they bring her back with her new family, happy and classy!Katherine is a brilliant actress and could carry it off. I really couldn't bear to see the old self-destructive Becky.
I agree that the writers brush some stories under the table. Remember recently Beth asked Michelle if Ryan was moody when he was Craig's age? Heck yeah! He found out he had been switched at birth! But this of course was not the answer she gave. lol
It would be great if she returned. Hope it happens
SHE HAS TOO! To comfort Roy when Hayley dies. It's imperative!!!!!
I actually think she should be back before Hayley dies, even if just for a couple of episodes. There is no way realistically that she would not be on the first plane over as soon as she hears the news. For this reason, I suspect Hayley will forbid Roy to tell her.
Katherine Kelly is probably too busy to fit in a few episodes, particularly since I don't imagine its a case of just being available for a week.
There's no reason why "Becky" can't return though. We just don't need to see her. I'm sure the terrific trio and Paula Lane talk about a visit and bring it to life just as vividly as if we had seen it.
I'd love to see Becky with Royston and Hales one more time, that relationship was too strong and recent to be ignored, and money, for Becky, isn't an issue. And even if Hayley doesn't say anything, Kylie or Steve will. If Katherine Kelly can't be there, the unseen visit (neat idea!) could happen during Stella's wedding week, when the Croppers and Platts will likely be off screen anyway. Or Roy and Hayley could go to Barbados (right?) during an off week from chemo.
I thought Uncle died a couple of years ago. Isn't that how Hayley ultimately found out about Christian?
There will probably be some mention of why Becky couldn't be there, but she will have sent flowers, spoken to Roy, etc.
Wasn't there mention of Roy and Hayley going off somewhere during her illness in one of the previews? Could be they go visit Becky?
I'm going on holiday next week - hope I don't miss Hayley's farewell. Anyone know the dates of her death?
