St. Ella of the Rovers is going, ladies and gentlemen, or at least according to The Sun today.
Corrie actress Michelle Collins looks set to leave the soap to spend more time with her family. The Sun exclusive says that Michelle is fed up with having to commute from London to
Manchester for filming. But she has just been given a new
12-month contract.
Michelle tells The Sun: “I will be in the show until this time next year. My daughter has her GCSEs next year. I want to be around to support her so
I’ll have to take time out. I find it really difficult working in Manchester and then coming back to
London to be a mum. I don’t want to unsettle Maia.”
This Corrie fan isn't sad to read that St. Ella is leaving. She's brittle, she's got a bad accent - that has never improved, despite what Corrie bosses might want to tell us in interviews - she's never fitted in and I've never warmed to her character. What do you reckon, our readers?
Post-blog edit: The official Coronation Street website are now quoting an official statement from Michelle Collins saying she has not said she's leaving Corrie. Oh well.

HOORAY !!! Boring, bland character. Terrible accent, over botoxed expressionless face...... I do hope this is not just a rumour !!
Hm this smacks exactly of the twaddle that Kate Ford spouted, too far a commute between London and Manchester, wanting to spend more time with their kid bla bla, then accepted a renewed contract, its just poor characters covering their backs and save face in case they are got rid of which they both should be.
Couldn't agree more, Flaming Nora. She hasn't been a successful addition to the cast at all.
Good news, lets hope she takes Eva with her!!
Hope she takes that miserable Carl with her
Marvellous news. Take the whole boring lot of them and their banal storylines.
Great news! Good riddance to bad rubbish! :D
Hmm, could the Rovers fall into Leanne's lap? That, I'd rather like to see. Think she could make a go of it, with her new-found maturity. And then if she and Steve were to get together, as many fans seem to want ...
Blast! She's not leaving after all!
@Cobblestone YES I've been saying this for ages to anyone who'll listen... Leanne and Steve need to get together, and run the Rovers together, this would be a perfect story, perfect couple, pefect set up Storyboarders listen up! :) Stellaaaaaa just goooooooo
Wants to spend more time with her family? Classic politician's statement when they resign. Perhaps MC has had enough stick and decided it wasn't such a brilliant career move. I wonder how this fits in with Stella's mother arriving. Will *she* take over the Rovers? Hope Stella takes Karl and Eva with her.
She isn't going anywhere..jumped the gun..that's press for you.
No such luck.
Excellent! Not the best addition to the show! Something desperately lacking in her "acting".... talent, maybe? A bit harsh, I know, but something is just not right!
Mrs. Barton - I agree, Leanne and Steve need to get together and run the Rovers and run Stella and Carl out of town. Although I know the article is not true according to Michelle Collins, that standard line about commuting...well wouldn't you know you had to do that well before signing a contract and also would know when her daughter is taking her GSC's or whatever....if and when she leaves she should come up with a more plausible reason. A new 12 month contract.....OH NO!!!
Elation dashed!! Almost read the post-blog edit as confirmation, then the disappointment washed over...
