Full marks to the hapless Lloyd as he struggles with the "White with a hint of . . ." matchpots. Number 13 will no doubt look like a little palace by the time has finished. It's refreshing to see anyone in the Street attempting to add lustre to their homes. Let's face it, the dwellings leave a lot to be desired. From the Rovers and its Tardis-like interior (a Tardis decorated by a myopic Mae West . . .) to the chintzy claustrophobia of Rita's flat, none of it is particularly desirable. If you had the chance, which home would you like to take the wallpaper scraper to? Or maybe even a wrecking ball? Does Sanita's over-stuffed front room drive you to distraction? Is Sally's conservatory a carbuncle? Will anything ever be worse than the Len 'n' Rita seventies hovel at number 9? Over to you!

I think Eileen's house needs it desperately. That dark burgundy wall makes the room look very grim(shaw) indeed. I actually like Fiz's house with the light easter egg colours plus of course she doesn't have a separate front and back room, it's all one so there's more natural light which the others don't have on the old side.
Fiz's Easter egg house gets a thumbs down from me, actually. I also hate Tina and Graeme's flat, with different gaudy wallpaper on every wall and loads of clashing patterns, ugh! "Backstage" at the Rovers has the same clash of patterns too, now that I think about it. (NB: I'm in Canada so I don't know if Tina and Graeme's flat has been changed in the episodes I haven't seen yet) Is this normal in the UK, every wall having something different on it? I hope for your sakes it isn't. :)
Most of the houses are weird. Why does everyone mix SO many colours and/or wallpaper in such small areas??? Dreadful decorating taste.

I think many of us suffered from dodgy decoration back in the 1970s. My parents always had one wall that clashed with everything else. For the residents of Weatherfield, the 70s linger . . .
They should have put the living area in the Rovers back the way Mrs. Walker had it in the 60s!
I agree with you David... I've been watching a lot of classic '70s episodes lately, and Len and Rita's house has the worst decor! It's literally terrible! :O
There is a big difference between high style and decorative simplicity... and the Cobbles benefits from neither! I get that they are for the most part not high on the hog but does almost everyone's home have to look like a near-sighted elderly Bucket "glammed" it up? If they are simple folk, they should have simple (classic/classy) taste, if they have wealth, they should at least be able to hire a professional decorator. Tacky, tacky, tacky - everywhere.
I always get distracted by the wall paper and that Egyptian mask monstrosity in the Rovers back room but then I think the whole room screams "Liz" so hoping Stella will revamp at least that room, but not to beige or taupe.I think Peter's flat is trying too hard to emulate retro 70's much like the bistro and I find those colours schemes incredibly stale but luckily I'm not noticing the set if Peter is in it.
I know the Barlows had their own wrecking ball in Becky - conveniently forgotton and not mentioned again - but their house is stuck in a 70s/80s timewarp with their advocado bathroom suite and MFI kitchen units that I actually bought for my house in 1984, but dont have any longer I hasten to add.
The red flowery wallpaper in the Rovers is also awful, but surprised the walls arent yellow the amount they smoke in there.
Carla's appartment is just suffocating! Horribly dark with great big gaudy patterns. Also hate Peter and Leanne's with that dreadful orange-patterned wallpaper. Actually, can't say I like any place much - except maybe Izzie and Gary's.
I'd have to give Tyrone Dobbs' house a makeover - the one that used to belong to Jack and Vera Duckworth.
It has a very gaudy 1970s feel to it and it also looks like a cardboard set - as if the walls aren't real.
Is it strange that i actually like most of the tacky old 70s decor? I don't know, it just has a very cosy, "Corrie" feel...
All of them :) not one of them I'd actually say was ok. One question though that's been bothering me for a while, why is it that if a room has a lamp in it, will always have that lamp switched on even if it is supposed to be bright sunshine outside?
I'd vote for either number 1 or Peter & Leanne's, followed in 3rd place by Tyrone's.
What annoys me is how nearly all of the sets have different wallpaper/different colours on different walls.
No-one i know has their house decorated like that. Looks weird!
I was always struck by the passing resemblance of the portrait of the Nefertiti bust in the Rovers livingroom to Liz herself. A witty comment on Liz' narcissistic tastes. Now she's gone though, it seems pointless and ripe for a makeover.
tyrones house - a few years ago when molly & tyrone took over the house they were allowed to redecorate and when tyrone finished it looked exactly the same as before.

A lot of the houses look locked in the 60s, 70s or 80s. I saw some gaudy curtains on the show recently and I'm sure my mother had exactly the same design circa 1967!
