We've seen Eileen slip a few bank notes into her wallet out of Owen's accounts. There hasn't been much more to do with that but this week, Eileen's expenses shoot up because of a dodgy ceiling in her house and she's about to get into a lot of hot water.
With that in mind, I thought it was a good week to post a character study about Eileen Grimshaw, one of my favourite characters, played by the excellent Sue Cleaver.

Ummm, can't actually recall Eileen buying this house, did I miss something? So if she doesn't own it, the Landlord should repair the roof. Perhaps it was one of those Corriemagic events of breathtaking efficiency and no-time-at-allness that only happen in Corrie land! I know she was looking at Molly and Tyrone's house because her landlord was selling the one she is in now, but don't recall her actually buying this one.
Great blog TVOR - Eileen is a great character, wish she was used a bit more!
I dont remember Eileen buying her house either, she was left some money by her father and she gave it to Jason to buy the flat with Tina and do it up, was that ever sold by the way, it doesnt seem to have been mentioned for ages.
I do remember her going for a mortgage and then not getting it but then i think she did. It kind of breezed by. Otherwise, yes, the landlord should be responsible
Bit of a slip by the writers here; IIRC Steve is her landlord!
For a single working class parent, taking title to property is huge a triumph. I think she bought her house, too, but, like Ashley's funeral, it was something that really should have been celebrated and was instead pushed aside with a quick mention because it didn't involve pretty young pouty thingees. Or Mary.
I'm a fan of Eileen's, too; except for this stealing from her boss business, she's probably the character I identify with most. Hope she finds some good companionship of the romantic variety. Long overdue and well deserved. He'd better have a sense of humor, though, don't want her to change.
I like Eileen too - great character.
I love Eileen.
I can't stand Sue Cleaver to be honest, I thought she was awful in Dinnerladies and I think she's awful in this. She has two facial expressions and her delivery is totally without emotion. She is one of the only people in Corrie who just seem like they're reading dialogue from a script. Getting rid of Claire and Eddie characters and extending her contract amazes me.
Steve sold the house when he had to pay for the big wedding Karen wanted. The new owner kept Eileen on as a sitting tennant. In September and October 2010 Eileen was going to buy Tyrone and Molly's house but they didn't move after all and her landlord put Number 11 up for sale. Since she'd been approved for the morgage on Number 9 already, Owen advised her to try to buy 11 and she decided to go for it. Looking at the corrie.net updates, it was never specified if the sale went through but I think we are to assume it did.
@ Anonymous: totally, totally agree with you. I can't stand the actress or the character either. Rubbish actress playing a rubbish part (I seem to recall saying that ages ago).
Last night, she was unbelievably bitchy to Rosie, it was totally unnecessary. Wish they would write her out.
I love her, she's the kind of mum anyone would want IMO... really 'everywoman' that we can all identify with in some way!
Rosie sometimes needs pulling down a peg or two!
