Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 11th May
Steve wants to get Oliver into a private nursery because he doesn't think genetics will help him at all, pointing out his Dad or Les only read books by disgraced footballers or Andy McNab. Don't diss the Nab, Steve! They are late to the nursery appointment because Oliver has drawn a moustache on Steve. However, it all goes well until they get back to the flat and Oliver has another fit and the ambulance is called.
At number 8, the postman wishes Gail a happy birthday, so Mrs Rodwell will probably have him up the aisle by July (which will be October). Gail must think it's actually her 40th birthday and it's still the '90s as she's still got 2 kids living with her, both of whom are bickering. Sarah, who leaves Harry not so much Home Alone as permanently alone, gives David a lecture on parenting as he's been out wandering the streets at night. David himself hears that there's been trouble on the Hylda Baker estate and Brian reports that a paperboy got his head shaved for delivering Razzle to the wrong flat. Wait, what? The Kabin sells 1970s pornography? Bernie confirms that it's reet rough up there: "It's West Side Story as directed by Quentin Tarentito" (sic). Even Gay Ted (or dad as Gail calls him) has remembered his daughter's bday, but David hasn't.
Gail, wearing something from 1974, tries to get Audrey to help make her birthday tea but her mum is too busy uncorking the vino verde to help. This is apparently similar to Gail's childhood bdays when only Gail's dollies, Daphne and Mrs Winklebottom, attended her birthday parties as Audrey was dancing to Cliff Richard in the front room with random fellas. Not true, says Audrey. It would have been Elvis.
Alya's been up all night skypeing Zeedan (Alya, it's all about Zoom now) and researching women being pushed into violence by abusive relationships on the internet. Toyah and Imran agree that Alya must stay out of it and leave it the professionals i.e. Immers. Good to see Imran on screen, as ever, but once again I repeat my demand that he has an actual storyline, not just there to turn up to the cop shop every time there's a miscarriage of justice. There's a bit of a fracas in the caff as Alya and Tim shout at each other and Eileen worries about coming forward with her evidence since Tim is such a good friend. Yasmeen fails to get bail.
Meanwhile, Cathy complains about Bernie, her work ethic and her day drinking. She threatens to resign until Dev offers her another 50p per hour. Throw in a free mask, Dev and you've got a deal.

I absolutely loved the scenes between Audrey and Gail. This is what Corrie should be about, ordinary people talking about ordinary things, may they be funny, nostalgic, sad or just plain inane.
