Sonia Ibrahim on being starstruck at Coronation Street
Sonia Ibrahim, who plays Mel in Coronation Street, is interviewed by fans in a recent Inside Soap magazine.
She answers questions which Corrie fans have sent in to the magazine and she comes across really nicely. She says that she was really starstruck when she first started work on the show.
"I was excited by everyone on my first day. Every time I saw someone I'd say "Oh my God, that's Peter Barlow!" or "Oh my God, that's David Platt!". But the actors who left me most starstruck were people like Bill Roache (who plays Ken Barlow) because he's the centre of old-school Corrie, isn't he?"
Asked which former Corrie characters she would bring back if she had the chance she said Tina McIntyre and Becky McDonald.
And if she could play anyone else on Corrie for a day, it would have to be Eva. "I think she's great. She's so feisty and is a very strong woman who has that girl power and independence about her. It'd be very cool to work in the Rovers Return too!".
Sonia recently got engaged at Manchester Town Hall. You can read more on that here.

I sincerely hope Mel is also brought to book for helping to conceal a crime. I don't care whether she's in love with Nathan, is scared of him or whatever, she could have done something ages ago, she knows exactly what's going on. She's actually just as bad.
The interview was with Sonia, not Mel. Give the girl a break, she seems really nice. Maybe the sign of a good actress?
Nathan probably threatened Mel's child, in the same way he intimated he would not think twice about harming Harry Platt.
Yes the interview was with Sonia but as her character cannot possibly be interviewed, Boris's comment is valid. If it wasn't for her character, there would be no Sonia to interview.
This character is such a non-entity for me. She could come up to me on the street and say I play Mel on Corrie and I wouldn't know who she was.
Some actors give views of their characters through their eyes. Sonia gave this interview as Sonia and how starstruck she was, not her views on Mel and her actions. Big difference
I, too, hope Mel comes into play and maybe she'll help Bethany take down Nathan and Neil in the end. She deserves to be free of them just as much.
