An article in today's Mirror says that Fireman Paul Kershaw (Tony Hirst) is set to leave Coronation Street when his current contract ends.
A Corrie spokesperson told the Mirror: "It’s a big year for the character of Paul, he will be at the centre of some explosive storylines which will culminate in a dramatic departure.”
This also means Eileen will be left alone again, which is a shame as she and Paul worked well together, and it was a heck of a struggle for the pair to get to where they are now.
Will Paul fall victim to the upcoming fire at the Rovers? Or will he leave in the back of a black cab?

Never liked him and not sorry he is going, he was never a long term character anyhow. He deserves to be written out for wearing those appalling windcheaters and sporting a side parting anyway!!
"He and Eileen worked well together"? Really? We never see them on screen.
Tick the box for the first character to go out of a list of those we want gone! Thank God, this character never worked, the pairing was unbelievable and both Eileen and Paul came out as selfish. Cringeworthy from the start. Good riddance!
I honestly thought he was out already! Or was that Brian? Is Brian out? I'm sure I read something about it over at Digital Spy but maybe i was wrong.
He'll probably be killed off in the upcoming fire. Let's face it, firemen usually are in soaps.
Never liked him and he ruined Eileen. Couldn't stand the way they canoodled while Lesley was sitting almost next to them. That affair ruined a potentially great Alzheimer's story. Zero chemistry between Paul and Eileen and I won't miss him.
He's never worked as a character with Eileen but that's simply because she is better off on her own. I will however miss seeing him on the screen as he's a hotty in an older guy type way!
He's be at the centre of "explosive storylines" that will culiminate in "a dramatic departure"?!? Isn't that what they always say? Glad to see him go, never liked him and agree he ruined Eileen.
They've worked well together since the whole Lesley thing ended, but I hated them being together when Lesley was still around.
Kirsteh, Sunita, Stella..trapped in the fire. Paul will pull Stella out, go back for Kirsteh who of course will be fatally injured and will confess all just before she croaks dying in Tyrone's arms and Paul will die in the fire with Sunita after he battles back into the fire - a hero to the end, leaving Eileen alone again..naturally. Anyway, that's what I think might happen.
No no no. I do not want Kirsty in the fire. I want her in a Court facing charges of abusing Ty and Fiz (remember the sewing machine)
As for Paul ... I can take him or leave him. I really didn't like the way Paul & Eileen cavorted with each other, with his wife in the next room. And if he dies in the fire, I won't feel sorry for Eileen cuz of the way she's been treating Ty and siding with Kirsty.

Please, please would someone at this blog tell the Corrie Press Office that their spokespeople have used up the entire world's supply of the words explosive and dramatic. Beg them never to use those words again.
Explosive, dramatic and Paul are not words that sit easily together in the same sentence and I am not sorry he's going.
You forgot Collinson's favourite sensational
