Where have you seen Phil the Jewellery Man before?

I really enjoyed watching Phil Wheeler the jewellery man last night on Coronation Street.

Writer Chris Fewtrell gave him some wonderful, naughty dialogue. "You've got a beautiful finger," he told Eva. "You'll make some bloke very happy with it."

If you're wondering where you might have seen Phil Wheeler before then wonder no more. He was played by Irish actor Simon Delaney, who has appeared in Mrs Brown's Boys. Every Irish person watching would have known who he was, I'd bet. Simon is a big star over in Ireland

He starred in the 2001-2003 RTE series Bachelors Walk. Since then he has appeared alongside Sean Penn in This Must Be the Place, Vince Vaughn in Delivery Man and Keira Knightley in Begin Again. He's also appeared in a host of top TV shows including The Fall, Moone Boy and The Good Wife.

Simon is on twitter: @SimonDelaneyEsq

Simon has followed in the footsteps of Ireland's Keith Duffy (Ciaran McCarthy) and Charles Lawson (Jim McDonald) who have also appeared in Corrie.

You can see more of Corrie's Irish links here.

Last year Keith Duffy said that Corrie was "definitely something he'd love to do again". You can read more on that here.

  1. When I read that an actor who had starred in Mrs Brown's Boys was going to appear in Corrie I was so excited. But this was by no means a main member of the cast. I did not even recognise him when I saw the episode last night. I think to say he 'starred' in the show was misleading.
As for the line about the finger...I thought it was an awkward remark...now that I hear it called 'naughty'...Ewwwwww

  2. So was that it for his appearances? One episode? Because from reading the "Who's leaving and who's joining" blog, I got the impression he was going to be a permanent fixture. Not what is effectively an extra.

  3. Hope he's around for longer; I rather liked him.
