It's been quite a month on Coronation Street with the Platt storyline finally coming to an end, the one that started with Kylie going to look for Max's dad to find out if Max had inherited ADHD. Let's hope David can finally move on and make a life for his kids after the loss of Kylie.
Peter Barlow's back and everything is kicking off again. Another row about the same old thing puts Ken in hospital and Peter at odds with Tracy. But it looks like Peter has at least one secret. Why the late night phone calls and meetings?
Steve learned that he might have a genetic disorder which could affect all his children, even the one that most people don't know is his. Michelle didn't cope at all well though Leanne managed to keep it together until the results of the test were known. (Negative. I want to know if Andy has had the test and could the gene skip a generation?)
Caz's obsession with Maria has gone to another level. Vinny and Phelan are still coasting, collecting as many deposits as they can before running for the hills. I do wonder if they are actually building a show flat and I'm surprised they managed to sell it to so many people even before it was built, just on a brochure alone.
Anyway, You can read all this and more in detail over on State of the Street.

Preview of tonight's double Coronation Street - Monday 31 Oct
MONDAY OCTOBER 31ST
MARIA MAKES A SHOCKING DISCOVERY When Tyrone tells Fiz about the abusive texts Caz has received from Maria, Fiz is disbelieving and reckons Caz is exaggerating. Meanwhile Caz calls in the factory and tells Kate that she’s finally leaving for good. Kate forgives her crazy behaviour and agrees to draw a line. But when Caz suggests a farewell drink, Kate refuses point blank. Kate’s phone later rings but when she sees the caller is Caz, she quickly kills the call. Maria arrives home from London and is furious to find her flat a mess, with furniture on its side and broken glass on the carpet. When Aidan and Eva suggest Maria should report Caz to the police, Maria admits she can’t take the risk as she’s guilty of an illegal marriage and needs to keep her head down. But as Maria sets to cleaning up the mess in the flat, she’s horrified to discover blood splattered up the wall, what has gone on?
ZEEDAN WANTS ANSWERS When Sharif finds Dev reading the gym accounts, he quickly whisks them off him and assures him that he’ll look after the books. Having printed off another set, Dev shows Zeedan the gym accounts which show a transfer of £14k to Sharif’s personal account. Zeedan’s shocked. Entering No.6, Zeedan confronts Sharif and demands to know what’s going on.
NICK AND LEANNE GET SOME EXCITING NEWS Wishing Leanne and Nick well with their 20 week scan, Michelle reveals that Steve is hoping she’ll have a boy. Will Leanne and Nick decide to find out the sex of her baby at the scan.
ELSEWHERE The staff at the Rovers prepare the pub for a Halloween party.
MONDAY OCTOBER 31ST
MARIA FACES A NIGHTMARE ON CORONATION STREET Kirk and Aidan call at Maria’s flat and survey the mess. Kate’s horrified when she receives a voice message from Caz sounding terrified and telling her Maria has locked her in the bathroom and she fears for her life. Kate plays the message to Aidan. Kate arrives at Maria’s flat and having spotted the blood stained wall becomes more convinced than ever that Maria has attacked Caz. Having been summoned by Kate, the police call at Maria’s flat and question her about the events surrounding Caz’s disappearance. Will the police find any evidence to explain the strange goings on and has Maria got any answers?
ZEEDAN STUNS RANA WITH AN ANNOUNCEMENT Clearly upset, Zeedan accuses Sharif of ruining his Dad’s business. Realising Zeedan has found out about the £14k, Sharif makes out it was a temporary loan and the money will be back in the account in a couple of days. Yasmeen’s left wondering why he needed the money. Zeedan pours his heart out to Rana telling her how much he misses his parents. But when he stuns her with a shock proposal how will Rana respond?
ERICA’S BEWITCHED BY DEV’S OFFER In the shop, Erica complains to Dev about the awful new uniform he expects her to wear. She’s taken aback when Dev asks her to move in with him. Will Erica take Dev up on his offer?
ELSEWHERE The Rovers Halloween party takes place with staff and regulars dressed up.

Corrie Weekly Awards for Oct. 24 - 28
The Way to a Man's Heart award: In Kirk's case, it's either pizza or a puppy, preferably both!
Clueless award: Aidan thinks Kirk is a mug for babysitting his nephew on his day off? Really? I bet he's also the kind of man that thinks looking after your own children is babysitting, not actually parenting.
The Best Defense is a Good Offense: Michelle giving Amy grief about listening in on a private conversation. You know, the one she was having out in the hallway instead of huddled behind a closed door somewhere that was actually... private.
Secrets and Lies award: Nothing good ever comes of keeping a relationship secret.
Hot and Cold award: Michelle. She's ruder than a rude thing to Robert one minute, then pouring her heart out and leaning on him for advice the next.
Throwback award: Seb seems to be a little thief. Years ago, Toyah had a boyfriend that tried to get her to steal from Roy. Are we going there, again? A boyfriend trying to lead Faye into a life of crime?
Fashion Plate: Dev looks quite snazzy, doesn't he? Well, he thinks so, at least.
And the Oscar Goes To: Caz for all those performances about Maria harassing her.
Lines of the week:
Gail "David, when it comes to the workings of your mind, nothing would surprise me"
Gemma to Craig "Don't get any funny ideas, but will you hold me hand?"
Foreman of the Jury "Guilty!"
Kirk "As if I'm gay! It's hilarious! I wouldn't even know what to do!" (And somehow, I believe him)
David "I'm not going to do any more mobile barbeques if that's what you're worried about" (Eek! That was a bit too near the mark, wasn't it?)
Beth to Kirk "Come home and be my pickle again" (It worked!)
Michelle to Leanne "Until you've walked in my shoes, you can't tell what it's like" (Yes, I think Leanne is doing exactly that though of course Michelle doesn't know that yet)
Michelle "I just couldn't cope. Does that make me the most selfish cow in the world?" (well, the temptation here would be to say Yes, Yes it does but that's not fair in this situation. )
Johnny "I don't want a quote of the day, I want results"
Tracy "Are you saying I'm not a decent human being?" Robert "I'm saying, prove it" (I know he meant prove that she IS decent but it sounded like he wanted her to prove she wasn't. Ahem. She's done plenty of that already!)
Sarah "I'm a big girl. I think I can visit a woman in hospital without hanging my brother out to dry" and "I spend my whole life tiptoing around because of David's mistakes"

Where have you seen Colonel Kebab before?
We spent most of last night trying to recall where we'd seen Colonel Kebab before. And finally it came to me - he was in Phoenix Nights. At least, that's where we know him best from.
Colonel Kebab is played by actor and comedian Archie Kelly who played Kenny 'Dalglish' Senior in Phoenix Nights. Here he is at the front of this picture in the brown trousers, kneeling.
Archie has also appeared twice before in Coronation Street in minor roles. With thanks to Corriepedia, we know that he was a football Referee in January 2005 who booked Warren Baldwin with a yellow card; and he returned to the programme in March 2010 as an Enquiry Officer manning the front desk at Weatherfield Police Station.
You can find out more about Archie Kelly here.

Corrie's Hilda Ogden ducks up for sale
Post-blog note:
Although these ducks are listed on eBay as 'original' we have researched the item and can confirm they are not the original ones shown on Corrie. They were produced and sold as a marketing gift for the ITV Values of Fame campaign.Someone is selling Hilda Ogden's "original" ducks on eBay.
The seller says this: "I have for sale the original Hilda Ogden Flying Ducks (Mallards) from the TV show Coronation Street, circa 1964-1987.
These were gifted to my mother in law by her boss Mr Nick Milligan, Managing Director of Sky Media at the time, who was sadly killed in a boating accident with his family. The ducks were sold at an ITV Charity auction with a reserve price of £2500.00 as can be seen from the photos. They are still in the original box from the auction addressed to Mr Nick Milligan at Sky Media.
The recent passing of Jean Alexander, the actress who portrayed Hilda for many years has reminded me that these are sitting in a box in the attic collecting dust, when they should be with a real fan or collector.
We have had these valued by an auction house so reserve the right to remove from sale should the reserve price not be met."
Current bids start at 99p and you can bid to win them here.

Filling in the gaps on the cobbles
I speak of the random and presumably conscious coupling of Michelle and Robert. Please - where did that come from? All it seems to have delivered are several odd, jarring moments between two characters who have barely ever spoken. I was trying to recall anything as perplexing in Corrie's rich and varied history. One occasion that sprang to mind was the funny but totally weird episode where Gail pied Deirdre in the face. Here were two Street residents who had barely charged a scene in thirty years going at it hammer and tongs. Followed by . . . absolutely nothing. Random.
However, the Robert/Michelle shenanigans (shall we call them Rochelle? No, let's not) are not the only storylines that seem to have been parachuted in apropos of nothing whatsoever. As funny as they were, the scenes featuring Steve, Tim and the footballer felt distinctly odd. In the story came and then out it went. Likewise the clunky kebab shop vignette this week with Dev dressed like a fan on his way to a Doctor Who convention and an over-acting man who actually uttered the line "you haven't heard the last of this!" like a scene from a long-forgotten 1970s B-movie. Add to this, a badly acted scene during one episode this week and it all makes for rather strange times.
There may, possibly, be an explanation for all of this random behaviour though. We don't know how much filmed material has had to be dumped due to the imminent departure of Sharif. A few odd moments may have been cobbled together featuring whichever actors were available at the time.
Strange they may be but utterly necessary if each episode wasn't to fizzle out after fifteen minutes. At least the Corrie team has been creative about how to solve the problem. Creaky old Aussie soap Prisoner Cell Block H had a similar problem back in the 1980s. When a filmed storyline was declared litigious, the producers simply chopped as many scenes as they could. This led to a character (played by the wonderful Vivean Gray - Mrs Mangel of Neighbours fame) appearing without any introduction, delivering a few lines and then disappearing and never being mentioned again. Thankfully times have moved on as have production values.
Are we set for more tales of the unexpected down Weatherfield way? I'm looking forward to ten minutes of Rita and David discussing a Spode tea service, Peter and Fiz recreating moments from the US election, Audrey challenging Johnny to a darts match and Liz sat in t'back room gently humming to herself until the commercial break. Stay tuned.

Hospital horrors, crazy Caz and mardy Michelle
When Kate Oates was announced as the new Coronation Street producer last year, I asked Emmerdale fans on the Digital Spy soaps forum what we could expect.
One of the comments that came through was: Lots of hospital scenes. Well, we've certainly had those already with Anna and Ken over the last couple of weeks.
What I haven't been expecting and I'm not entirely happy with are some of the harpies we're now being exposed to.
For instance - Crazy Caz. Are we really to believe that ex-army and hard-as-nails Caz who helped lift the car off Anna Windass last week on the cobbles, is pretending to be in tears over receiving texts from Maria? It doesn't cut it with me, I'm afraid. And while we're on the subject of Caz, why can't there ever be a positive depiction of a lesbian on the show? (And I don't mean Sophie Webster).
Moving on - we've now got Mardy Michelle. Her unborn baby might have a life-threatening disease but then again, it might not. However, while waiting for the test results from Steve, she considers having an abortion. I found this hard to believe and therefore every time Michelle came on screen in tears I wanted to chuck a cushion at my telly box.
And what's going on between Michelle and Robert? Since when did the two of them share a conversation before, never mind a confession, or even a scene lasting longer than two shots? When? In the kitchen at the Bistro last night, Michelle stormed in to berate Robert for sharing her pregnancy news around the street. She ranted and raved at him about betraying her THEN she went on to confide in him even more, about Steve and his illness that he might, or might not have.
Don't get me wrong. I'm loving the fresh, new world of Kate Oates at Coronation Street. I loved the shock of the explosions last week - of which I had NO idea. I didn't know Anna was going to end up burned either. I screamed in shock and horror as I was watching the show. And I loved that, I really loved not knowing what was going to happen. In nine years since starting this Coronation Street Blog I can honestly say it was one of maybe half a dozen times that I didn't know - I hadn't been told - what was going to happen. More please.
And on that note, paparazzi pictures this week revealed all kinds of things about Michelle Connor. I deliberately haven't put them onto the blog but in my search for Corrie stories to blog about, I've seen them and it's spoiled the storyline for me, as a fan. What's the point in watching, of investing, if we know months in advance what's going on?
If Coronation Street can shake off those paparazzi photographers, maybe keep their on-location filming indoors, just think of the fun and surprise we could have as fans in the future. Just think.
The future of Coronation Street under Kate Oates is looking good, it really is. There's a lot to look forward to. But keeping it tight, keeping it focussed and keeping it secret is the key to keeping fans hooked.

All the wit and warmth of Weatherfield

Available from amazon.co.uk or amazon.com
Anna’s in hospital, sedated and when she wakes up she’s in shock to find out what’s happened to her legs. She’s going to need skin graft surgery for the burns to her body. Kevin, Faye, Tim and Gary are at her hospital bedside much of the week.
Along the hospital corridor from Anna lies Ken, recovering from his stroke and suffering various members of his family reading The Weatherfield Gazette to him, whether he wants them to or not. It looks like Ken’s recovery is going to be slow. Tracy tells Peter to call everyone he can find in Ken’s address book to let them know what’s gone on. This heralds the return in a few weeks of Ken’s grandson Adam Barlow (whose dad was Mike Baldwin) and Ken’s son Daniel Osbourne (whose mother was Denise the hairdresser). It’s going to get mighty crowded inside number one.
Michelle agonises over having an abortion this week - just in case - Steve is diagnosed with the genetic muscular disease. I found myself yelling at the telly every time Michelle was on, and that’s never a good thing to do. Why she couldn’t wait until Steve’s test results came through before getting herself into a right old two-and-eight, I don’t know. Obviously, Leanne’s worried about her baby too but she keeps a much more level head. Fortunately for everyone Steve’s test results come back clear. Everybody’s going to be fine, just fine… aren’t they?
For some strange reason Michelle and Robert seem to be growing close. And since when have they even shared a scene together never mind a conversation? I find this unlikely relationship, even if it’s just a friendship at this stage, most unbelievable.
Clayton’s trial is held in court and the killer of Kylie Platt is found guilty and sent down. It’s a relief for all concerned, apart from Clayton of course.
Elsewhere this week Sarah and Gary finally get together with a full-on snog. And if she ever needs a body double, then Corrie, you know where I am.
In Primer Donor, Dev gets a nasty surprise when Colonel Kebab arrives. He’s the owner of the largest string of kebab shops in the north-west and reckons Dev kebab uniforms are a copyright theft of his own. They’re red! They’ve got a yellow logo! The colonel hasn’t got a chicken leg to stand on but Alya jumps in and offers to design new uniforms for Dev. Sinead isn’t best pleased that her work for Alya seems to be getting passed off as Alya’s own. She’s got a point there, too.
Faye’s new boyfriend Seb eyes up an old lady’s handbag in Roy’s Rolls. Faye sees what’s going on and causes a diversion so Seb can’t steal the bag. She confronts Seb about it at the bus stop but his thieving ways aren’t enough to put her off seeing him again.
Caz spends much of this week either in fake tears for the residents of the street or a fake smile to the camera. She doesn’t want to leave Maria’s flat, she’s got nowhere to go, but Maria wants her out before she comes back from that London where she’s gone to see her gay husband Pablo. Oh, I do love the world of soap. Caz has already phoned the Home Office to dob Maria in about her fake marriage. Anyway, Caz moans and cries to anyone who’ll listen (Tyrone) that Maria’s being nasty to her and sending her crazy texts – something Tyrone has experienced too.
And finally this week, Kirk and Beth get back together. Beth buys Kirk a puppy and he can’t resist its little dinky eyes and waggly tail. “I’m like a cheese sarnie with no pickle,” Beth tells Kirk. “Come home and be my pickle again.” Kirk trots home with Beth who can’t resist his little dinky eyes and waggly tail.
And that’s just about that for this week.

Last week's terrific trophy seems to have been pretty easy with everyone guessing correctly but the first one to spot that it's Max's swimming trophy was one of our anonymous contributors. Congratulations.
For this week's prop puzzle all you have to do is tell us whereabouts on Coronation Street you would find this mysterious metal object.

Leanne tries to comfort her whilst Robert’s stunned to realise Michelle’s pregnant. Leanne warns Michelle that Amy’s found out about her plans for an abortion. Faye confronts Seb about his intention to nick the purse. Seb makes out he was doing it for her as he wanted to buy her something nice. Faye’s appalled and when Seb reveals he’s stolen a bottle of wine from the corner shop how will she respond? With Peter present, the doctor explains to Ken how he’s suffering from aphasia. Struggling to speak, Ken orders a heartbroken Peter to leave telling him he doesn’t want any visitors from now on.

Faye Brookes locked up for Halloween at Old Granada Studios
Faye Brookes, who plays Corrie’s Kate Connor, will be getting locked in the old Granada Studios in Quay Street - the former home of Coronation Street - on Saturday night.
Faye is taking part in the Halloween Lockdown and is part of a team getting locked up, raising cash for charity Forever Manchester. Her JustGiving page is here.
The brave ghost hunters will gather underneath the Bonded Warehouse and depending on how much money is in each competitor’s JustGiving account, they will either be released and whisked off to Forever Manchester’s Halloween Spooktacular, also held at the Old Granada Studios, or they will be locked up for even longer until the last man or woman is standing.
To support Kate visit forevermanchester.com/halloween-lockdown-2016/ or to buy tickets for the Spooktacular ball, which cost £20, visit forevermanchester.com/spooktacular

Wendi Peters: From Weatherfield to the West End
Wendi Peters, who played Cilla Battersby-Brown in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's Lorraine show today.
Wendi talked about the new musical she's starring in - State Fair - and working with a 32 piece orchestra. Richard Fleeshman (Craig in Corrie) also stars in the musical too.
And of course, talk turned to Corrie's Cilla. She was asked if she'd ever go back and Wendi said:
"Luckily the door is still open because Fiz and Ches are still there. I'm a firm believer in never say never. You never know what's around the corner. I went back a couple of years ago for a few weeks and had a lovely time. I love doing what I do now..."
After State Fair, Wendi is starring in panto in Sheffield and next year as The Queen of Hearts in new musical Wonderland which is touring the UK until August. She's a very busy lady and if she did ever return to Coronation Street, they'd have to be quick to pin her down and get her booked up!

Why has Eva dyed her hair red in Coronation Street?
We've had a few queries as to why Eva has dyed her hair red in next week's Coronation Street. Well, it's for the Rovers Return Halloween party on Monday 31st October.
When I first saw this picture of Eva behind the bar at the party in the Rovers, I thought it was a Liz McDonald flashback photo!
Here are a couple more photographs from the Halloween party we'll see onscream screen next week in Corrie.
