Greetings and welcome to another Corrie weekly update. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas!
It’s been Christmas on the cobbles this week but any peace and goodwill to all men (and women) came in very short supply. Hayley was given the devastating news that she had weeks to live after a scan showed the cancer had spread to her liver, the chemotherapy wasn’t working and no alternative course of treatment could be used to save her. She’s been stoic, she’s been upbeat, but this week Hayley broke down in spectacular style - and who could blame her? “It’s not fair,” she cried to Roy. “I’m not ready!” before going home, giving Kylie what-for in the cafĂ© for feeling sorry for herself then chucking their Christmas tree to the floor in the flat above the caff. When she’d calmed down later, sitting on the sofa with Roy in one of their many touching scenes with dialogue to match, Roy told his wife how much he loved her and how much she meant to him: “You have turned an apology of an existence into a life.”
Sally receives a Christmas card from Kevin in Germany and it’s news which pricks up Tim’s ears, could there be a touch of jealousy creeping in? Does Tim actually care about Sally? I guess we’ll have to wait and see when Kevin returns whether Tim will put up a fight to keep Sally, and who Sally will want to be with. Tim’s a great character, feckless in the tradition and good fun to watch. Anyway, Sophie and Sally help out at a soup kitchen for Christmas and Sally gets her handbag nicked by a homeless girl called Maddie who gives Sophie some grief.
Over in the Rovers, Steve’s college mate Andrea turns up and causes a bit of a stir when Michelle finds out that Andrea helped Steve pick Michelle’s Christmas present. So Michelle’s a bit put out, and rightly so, and she’s a bit jealous too when Andrea plays darts with the fellas in the pub - but it’s Lloyd who gives her the glad-eye and the come-on, not Steve.
The Platt’s have their usual bad Christmas, this time in The Bistro where angst and anger are served up with the sprouts. Kylie gets drunk and goes awol - again – then fights with Tina on the cobbles and Nick flies into a rage and slaps Leanne.
And finally this week, Rita and Norris buy Norris a new coat; he's a nosy parker in a parka.
And that’s just about that for this week.
This week's writers were Susan Oudot, Simon Crowther, Debbie Oates, Ellen Taylor, Chris Fewtrell. Find out more about the Coronation Street writing team at http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-all-current-corrie-writers.html
