Anyway, Bernie, who is the weak link in all of this, tells Adam that the watch had "To Rick From Laura" inscribed on it (I still don't understand why Sarah bought the watch?) and it was found in Beacon Woods. Slimfast Craig brings Sarah's handbag from last week's ambulance, including the watch, which Adam finds. Surely he's worked it out by now!!? He's the finest legal brain in Weatherfield (apart from Imran).
Talking of Imran, he and Toyah are forging ahead with the fostering. They make time though to hear Alya's thoughts on Speed Daal and Geoff. She wants to keep her distance (not just 1 metre) and says she wants to sell her share of the restaurant. Doesn't she want to keep it in the family for when Yasmeen gets out? She visits her gran in hospital and Yasmeen says she feels safer in there, away from Geoff and she doesn't want a new trial. Alya fills in Sally and her Aunty in law (?) suggests that she should buy Geoff out and she will give her the money that Geoff stole from Speed Daal and gave to Tim for the wedding.
In the comedy storyline, Steve can't get a sausage in the cafe, as the suppliers haven't delivered and Nina offers him a veggie breakfast instead. "I'm not one of those trendy hipster types!" yells Steve. A veggie breakfast is only £2.95, Stevie-boy; if Roy's really was a hipster place, it'd be £10.95, mate! Steve visits (the newly en-bearded) Dev's to try to get an all day breaky sarnie, but they've sold out. Does no-one have cornflakes at home for breakfast? Steve goes full Piers Morgan, saying that the vegan conspiracy won't beat him and he buys some sausys from Dev's and takes them to the cafe to cook them. Does he not have a grill at home?
In the other comedy storyline, a half-naked Chesney walks in on Gemma's vlog recording. Corrie, please stop trying to make sexy Chesney happen, it's not going to happen.
Oh and there was something about Kirk wearing his Buzzer the Bee costume for Gary's socially distanced stag do. In this heat!?

It may have supposed to have been a comedy storyline but Steve and the sausage saga were anything but. I couldn’t believe how bad those scenes were. How somebody could write that drivel was beyond me.As for the ‘acting’ from Simon Gregson, dear me, totally over the top with the shouting and face pulling.
ReplyDeleteThe problem isn’t Gary not being a “classic baddie”, its him not being an interesting baddie. Gary is an accidental baddie like John Stape but this storyline isn’t fun to watch like John’s was because it’s too serious. When Gary came into the show, he was a nasty piece of work but it was never interesting to watch. He suits being a hero better. This storyline could had been the best storyline in Coronation Street at the moment if they picked a more suited character.
ReplyDeleteThe stuff with Steve and the sausage was cringeworthy to watch. I understand what Coronation Street was trying to do with showing Steve’s frustrations with Oliver but how it was done was very poor. They need to redeem themselves in the next episode
Yeah those Scenes with Steve in the cafe were embarassing to watch. And the shirtless Chesney stuff wasn't much better... Come on writers, this is not comedy, this was painful and moronic.
ReplyDeleteIt's a travesty Maureen Lipman's out of the show for a while because Evelyn is the only character capable of delivering comedy.
Corrie, please stop giving us *hilarious* scenes. Simon Gregson and co probably had a great time doing that scene in the cafe. One of those times you could see the actors were having more fun than the viewers. And wasn't Chesney supposed to be naked, not just shirtless? Didn't seem much of a problem to me; all very contrived. Agree with Anon at 19.54 about Maureen Lipman's comic ability. The older actors have more experience under their belt and can do both comedy and tragedy - Sue Nicholls, Helen Worth and others. The only young actors who seem to me to be destined for work beyond the Street are those playing Emma and Nina.
