Corrie's slave storyline inspires Ruxandra Porojnicu's fundraising

Ruxandra Porojnicu plays Alina Pop in Coronation Street (or Alina Pop! as our blogger Merseytart calls her and I have to say, the exclamation mark at the end is a great addition to her name).

Ruxandra is training for the London Marathon this year. She says she was inspired to run the marathon to raise funds for the Salvation Army.

She says: "With the slavery storyline, people were congratulating me for helping to raise awareness but I felt I needed to do more. So I asked someone from the Salvation Army and they told me about the Marathon. When I first started training I wanted to throw up! Even though I went to the gym I just wasn't fit enough to run so much. But now I train five or six times a week and I'm making good progress. I'm excited!"

There's an excellent, long interview with Ruxandra Porojnicu in this week's Inside Soap magazine where the actress answers questions sent in by fans.

You can donate to Ruxandra Porojnicu's fundraiser here.

  1. She seems like a lovely young lady, but I really don't understand why they brought her character back?
