Corrie producer Iain MacLeod teases Liz McDonald's exit story

In this week's Inside Soap magazine there's a very long interview with Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod who has a few things to say about storylines coming up in 2020. There's so much to share that I'll be blogging these over a few different posts - so stay tuned.

In this blog post I'd like to share what Iain says about Beverley Callard leaving the show as Liz McDonald.

Iain MacLeod tells Inside Soap that he's "gutted" Bev/Liz is leaving the show. As are we all, mate.

"Liz's departure is a long way off yet, but we want it to be big, heroic and befitting of the character.  She's a tough woman, is Liz McDonald, so we want to reflect that.  The idea - which is still in its embryonic stages - is that Liz attempts to do something heroic for her son as a result of this story I'm hinting at for Steve and Tracy.

"Her efforts probably go slightly wrong in a way that will corrupt her relationship with Steve, and ultimately determine that the best place for her is not in Weatherfield".

I think that's a real shame, it sounds a sad farewell to Liz.

  1. Liz deserves a proper goodbye, I hope they don't sent off in shame!

  2. This is wishful thinking but I'm intrigued when the producer talks about 'a few different clans'. Obviously, this storyline could include families Barlow, McDonald, Platts, Battersby. And it will be the 60th anniversary year so anything could happen. My New Year's Wish would be for Janice to return to support Leanne if Oliver is involved. They'll need a new matriarch when Liz goes and both her daughters live on the Street.
