Earlier this week we reported that Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street, will be returning to the role of Eileen after taking a break.
But we can also reveal that Nicola Thorp, will not be returning to her role as Nicola Rubinstein.
In a little video on ITV's official twitter feed filmed in ITV's car park (!) she said she was really sad to be saying goodbye to Corrie "for now".
And we know she hasn't been killed off in the show, so there's always a possibility that she might return. Besides which, didn't Nicola recently buy her own flat? Who's living in there now? Has she sold it? Am I overthinking? Shall I get my coat?
Watch Nicola's goodbye video here:

Such a shame. She's a really good, charismatic actress.
ReplyDeleteNicola was a breath of fresh air for the show... a strong, modern female role model the show badly needs. Few females on the street are well educated, have a deep role that can carry its own stories (being a social worker, the stories can write themselves). I figured her contract was for a year, but the PTB need to look at bringing her back ASAP and dump some of the dead weight (we know who they are). Come on Ian, this is one of your easiest decisions mate!
ReplyDeleteBoo!
ReplyDeleteShe says 'for now' though so I'm still not convinced it's permanent, it might just be that Nicola Thorpe wanted a bit of time off.
Ok fine I'm in denial! But I'd love her back on Corrie someday, this is a new character that actually works.
is there anyone who doesn’t love Nicola T and her alter ego Nicola R? Great actress, great character with plenty of non-Phelan connections, her bf is in the cast so not like she’d need to run to London for hugs (who wouldn’t like to see Nicola and Imran shipped?), she’s made a name for herself by being a decent strong woman outside of Corrie in addition to the one she plays. PLEEZE make her a good offer, we’ll all win in the end.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad, I loved her every time she was on the screen. She has such a fresh quality to her. But she's had a good and varied career so far so I can understand that she would want to continue doing different roles. I do hope she'll come back from time to time.
ReplyDeleteCome back, come back Nicola --- we love you and yes, you certainly gave this show that's been in the doldrums for such a long time some much needed lift. Nicola was a believable character -- strong, weak, decisive, unsure -- human in a way that a lot of current characters are not. The actress Nicola played her so well.
ReplyDeleteA fine actress, so I obviously hope her departure is to join the ever growing list who proved themselves on the Street and, like Sarah Lancashire, who was first, go on to become national treasures!
ReplyDeleteAs fir Eileen...she’s always in the Caribbean, coming back to the cobbles midwinter with a glorious tan. This time though, she actually deserves a break!
From a selfish perspective that is just wrong wrong wrong wrong. I do hope the decision was hers.
