Lucy Fallon signs new Corrie contract

Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt in Coronation Street, has signed a new contract to stay on at the show.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sunday she said: “I just absolutely love it here. I’ve just signed another contract which starts next year. It was a no brainer. I still feel so lucky to have been given such an important story to tell and Bethany’s journey is far from over. There’s a lot coming up next year and honestly I couldn’t be happier.”

Early next year viewers will see Bethany begin working in a lap-dancing club.

Lucy admits that she was initially shocked by the storyline but understands that it’s all about Bethany taking back control. She added: “I was nervous about it and was a bit like, ‘how does that happen after everything that’s happened to her?’ But after it was explained and I found out it was a power thing and taking control of her body and what men can do to her, I understood it more.

"And now it’s obvious it’s just a journey for Bethany and this is her way of dealing with everything that’s happened. Obviously I was a little worried about what I was going to have to wear, but they were really good and said it was down to me. o we went for hot pants and a cropped bra top. I had to feel comfortable.”

  1. Law of averages says some abuse victims will take this path and it could have worked if done slowly and thoughtfully. Did they also tell Lucy that she won't have to endure it for long? Everything seems so frenetic these days on Corrie that the storyline will probably only last a month. Could be a prelude to Bethany and Craig's relationship. She'll confide in him and he'll emotionally rescue her.

  2. How about "taking control" by going to university to learn and have a career and future, god forbid they go down that route!
