Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price in Coronation Street, is leaving the show.
In a statement to The Sun, Catherine says: "Coronation Street has been a dream job for me which is why this was such a difficult decision to leave. Eva has been such fun to play over the last seven years, and who knows, one day she might storm the cobbles of Weatherfield again.
"In the meantime I’m excited about the future, new acting projects, and spending time with my family."future, new acting projects, and spending time with my family."
A Coronation Street spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Cath Tyldesley will leave Coronation Street at the end of her current contract next year after seven years in the show. Cath's portrayal of Eva Price has made her a firm favourite amongst fans and she will be missed. The producers and writers are currently working on her exit storyline which be on screen in early summer."
This week is turning into a week of shocks from the Street, and no mistake. Earlier this week, Shayne Ward, who plays Aidan Connor, is leaving the show when his contract ends in May 2018.

I'm so sad to hear this. Another underused character of late. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. They could have done so much with her character. The writing on this show is so lopsided now. They forget about a lot of characters and pile on story after story with others. Do we really need the ridiculous amount of hardships they have thrown at Robert? It' so much in such a little time, it's just stupid.
ReplyDeleteI keep watching this show, I suppose out of habit now, but it really is missing the mark these days. It's sad really.
And where is Leanne?
Wow, it's quite a purge of likeable characters. Whyyy not get rid of Sinead and snooze-fest Chesney?? I don't like Fiz either... I have to turn the volume way down when she's on as her screechy voice scares my budgies (and me for that matter).
ReplyDeleteNot surprised by 'other acting opportunities."The actress clearly has talent though I never cared for her character. I just hope it is not some convoluted 'explosive, shocking twist' involving Tracy Barlow.
ReplyDeleteNoooo, why is everyone leaving?? (Read it in a whiney voice). Seriously tho, everyone I like leaves, but of course Gary gets to come back from the dead, someone I can do without! I can take solace in the fact that Carla is coming back!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pity but since the show is only dragging her character down as they have with her over the top revenge against Aiden, I'm glad the actress is moving on and hope to see her soon in better projects.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she and Aiden will work things out ad leave together.
ReplyDeleteNoooo! Eva is one of my faves. Gosh, feels like there's a larger than normal number of actors leaving lately. I wonder if they're as fed up with recent changes as many fans are. And I wonder if this is happening behind the scenes too, with support crew?
ReplyDeleteLook, everything Oates is doing isn't terrible. She's brought an energy to the show, and has taken time to nod to past characters and storylines. What else? Hmm. More money spent on better hair-grooming? Some innovative cinematography? Still, there's something wonky going on. Out of balance.
I hope some of these leavers come back after this era.
Such a shame. She is one of the Street delights. I hope it’s just a temporary break (and they do in fact leave the door open for her)
ReplyDeleteKate Oates is doing a marvellous job of running this programme into the ground. Not surprised Catherine is leaving, the writing and storylines over the past year have been absolute CARP!
ReplyDeleteJeanie (anon):
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the character--it's the families that are being decimated, which is particularly sad given how much trouble the writers went to develop them and have viewers invest in them. The Connor family is being broken up. Leanne-Eva-Toyah. Eileen's family. The Windasses. It's natural enough that the actress would want to move on and pursue other projects, but they should keep these families intact and bring the characters back with other actors.
Eva’s a delightful character in search of a plot. The Aidan engagement was a fiasco but otherwise, she was always fun to watch. She could even pump life into Toyah, that’s a skill. I hope they leave the door open, although with her talent, i doubt CT would ever have a reason to return.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Jeannie about the destruction of the families. I'm finding the final days of the Grimshaw clan particularly painful. Unlike most viewers on here, I always liked Eileen and loved her relationship with Jason, Todd, Sean, Marcus et al. It was the most open, least clan-nish of the clans on the Street. Maybe something can be cobbled (pun intended) out of Eileen, Nicola, Billy, and Summer. Hope so.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm disappointed that Cath is leaving,in a way I'm not surprised as Eva was ruined when she got away with helping Adam rob the factory and put in out of business as part od her revenge against Aidan.
ReplyDeleteThat being said,I hope there is a happy ending with Eva and Aidan leaving together.
I really hope the door is left open for her to come back, and that her exit is not related to some reconciliation with Aiden. She's way too good for him.
ReplyDeleteThis is a shame. Eva had it in her to become one of the icons of the show, real staying power. I hope they give her a happy ending, but leave the door open for the future.
ReplyDeleteMaybe like Anon above posted, she and Aiden will reconcile and ride off into the sunset!
that irritating forced laugh of hers makes me mute every time she appears on screen.
