Les Dennis on his Corrie break and splitting up with Eileen

Les Dennis, who plays Michael Rodwell, will be taking a seven week sabattical from Coronation Street this spring.  He's starring in Alan Bleasdale’s Down the Dock Road at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre in March.  You can find out more about that here.

Les will return to Corrie having already signed a 12-month contract that will keep him in the soap throughout 2016.

And speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Les reveals that Michael's relationship with girlfriend Eileen Grimshaw will become rocky - and it isn't because of his ex Gail.

Les says:  “It’s just a seven week sabbatical. I have a big storyline now which I start filming in January, which builds up to Michael leaving. His relationship with Eileen will become rocky because of someone else arriving in the street.”

  1. Please get him and Gail back together. There was no real reason for them to break up in the first place.

  2. Totally agree with you Joseph, it was the daftest thing ever to split them up. Eileen needs to be written out.

  3. I still don't understand why, having had a weeks long build up to Michael being exposed as a burglar, by the next episode it was all forgotten about, with Michael happily out and about at Tyronne's "Lapland" event, and not even Norris being nasty to him.

  4. Strange thing about Michael. He didn't appear for a few weeks and then suddenly turned up in the street with Eileen. I didn't miss him when I thought he'd already gone. His appearances are very bitty and I don't suppose he'll be missed this time. Good luck to him on his break and hope tptb make better use of him on his return.

  7. Sooo many actors taking a break at the same time . They must've sent a memo round saying staff can now have a break to star in a play whenever they wish - hence the mad rush .....,

  8. Michael brings nothing to the show for me. I don't enjoy watching him.

  9. Before he leaves for his break I hope he breaks up with Eileen realizing that Gail is the woman for him. Then Gail can tell him where to go and how to get there! lol If he does come back after the 7 weeks...a little groveling and let him back with Gail. :-)

  10. Anonymous 10.36 - all the cast are allowed to take a break to do theatre (not panto) but I guess they've all had enough at the same time. Can't blame them!

  11. Why is theatre ok, but not panto? Just curious.

  12. Unless he gets back with Gail there's no point in the character. I'd be happy if he never came back!
