Interview: Chris Gascoyne on Peter Barlow's return

This week's Inside Soap magazine is spoiling us, it really is.  There's so much Corrie stuff in it this week, it's a real treat (as always).

They have an interview with Chris Gascoyne, who is returning to Coronation Street as Peter Barlow.  Chris is currently starring in Little Voice with Vicki Entwistle, who played Janice Battersby.

He tells Inside Soap that when he was written out of Corrie last year he was glad that Peter didn't turn out to be Tina McIntyre's killer: "Peter's a lot of things but he's not a killer. You're always at the mercy of the writers in those situations but I wouldn't have liked that - not after playing him on and off for 15 years. 

"The Corrie team always write brilliantly for me and they always find Peter something to do.  But I felt I needed a break from it, to come away and do the type of stuff I'm doing now, then take some of my renewed energy back to that character."

On Peter's return to Corrie for Deirdre's funeral later this year he says: "The Corrie bosses asked me to go back to help round off Deirdre's storyline. I wasn't there when Anne (Kirkbride, who played Deirdre) passed away so I wanted to go back for me, and also for the character.  We're doing a couple of very big episodes for Deirdre."

Deirdre's funeral will screen later this year.
