Georgia May Foote to leave Coronation Street

Georgia May Foote, who plays Katy Armstrong, is leaving Coronation Street.

The official Coronation Street website at itv.com/corrie states that the actress will depart the cobbles later this year, after producer Stuart Blackburn decided not to renew her contract.

Georgia says: “I have had an amazing four years on Coronation Street. I have had some fantastic storylines and worked with some wonderful actors. I am very excited about what the future holds. While I will be sorry to say goodbye to Weatherfield, I am looking forward to the challenge of new roles.”

“Katy will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return,” Stuart Blackburn said, adding “We wish Georgia every success with her future career.”

I thought I saw her name on that list on this blog that HAD had their contracts renewed?. Well what can I say, nothing against her and I wish her all the best but she won't be missed as she is a weak and rather pointless character with little presence I am afraid. A few others that are attached to the Corrie gravy train need to go as well.

  2. Well put Frosty - agree 100%

  3. At last, one of the extraneous characters gets the boot. But there are quite a few others who do nothing for the show that should go too. IMHO, the show is well overdue a good cleanout.

  4. Frosty, you may well be right. The tabloids are not known for their accuracy.

  5. The Mirror said in February that Georgia May Foote had signed a year long contract. SB told Michelle Keegan that Tina wouldn't be killed off and now she is. He seems to change his mind and it wouldn't matter if they didn't make such a publicity event of announcing comings and goings. I wonder if her Katy's will be part of the Windarms implosion. Maybe Owen is going to leave the Street, too.

  6. PS: ... Katy's exit will be part of the Windarms implosion.

  8. First we hear about Jim coming back, and now the pointless Katy is leaving - we're looking forward to the second half of the year in Corrie already! Stuart Blackburn, you're almost making up for getting rid of Brian and Dennis...

  9. How long is Dennis back for, does anyone know?

  10. It seems that Blackburn is only interested in giving storylines to characters he has brought in eg Steph, Maddie, Kal. Katy could have easily have been Tinas flat mate instead of Steph. It seems like Blackburn brought Steph in to replace Katy. I much prefer Katy over Steph and Maddie

  11. The official ITV website confirms this story so it is true

Yeah, damn Blackburn for actually using characters he brought in. How dare he. He should just make them sit around in the background not doing anything just awaiting to be axed.
Steph is funnier and far more interesting than Katy, who has barely done anything memorable in 4 years apart from getting pregnant and having an affair with the idiot Ryan.

  13. This is good news. Was always worried Katy was purely there for her looks and with Michelle Keegan leaving was going to be catapulted into the spotlight when her character has a 'nothingness' about her. I wish the actress luck but am pleased for the show- Micky

  14. This is not good news..sorry, but that girl was given nothing at all to do. She was another prop and that's that. We have Bill R coming back..why? Michael LeV is in revolving door mode and the ensuing garbage that is Sophie and yet another girlfriend to look forward to tells me that the writers haven't got a clue what to do next. What's with Steph and her brother on board..except that it's the brother that kills Tina IMO.

  15. I wonder what will happen to little Joseph? Will he leave with his mum or stay with his dad?It was hard enough watching Tyrone lose Molly's son Jack to Kevin so I wouldn't want to see Chesney go through the same pain. This may sound a bit harsh but perhaps it would make more sense for Katy to be killed off and Joseph raised by his father and Sinead?

  16. Katy won't be missed, I wish the actress good luck!

  17. The actress is very pretty and isn't her fault that she wasn't given good material to work with. I would much rather see Sophie and Maddie go.

  19. I find it interesting that two months ago they gave her £100,000 for a one year contract to keep her on the soap (eye candy when Michelle Keegan announced she was leaving) and now they're not renewing that contract. Maybe they realized they're paying her too much for what they're getting out of the character.

I liked her but once again, the writers didn't give her much. I just don't want to see Chesney going through the pain of losing his son. Maybe Katie won't go far so Ches will still have some sort of custody.

  20. One down and a few more to go! Of course Katy won't move far away. That way they don't have to show Joseph very much or if at all as he will be 'visiting' Katy when anyone asks.
