Corrie fans vote Blanche as fave OAP

Coronation Street Blog readers have voted Blanche Hunt as their favourite Corrie pensioner. 303 voted and 74 (24.42%) voted for Blanche. This is the fourth time that Blanche has topped the poll in our series of polls launched since April - she's already taken the best battleaxe, gossip and 2000s Corrie moment trophies.

In second place came the radiant Rita Tanner with 44 votes (14.52%). Sylvia Goodwin came third with 33 votes (10.89%).

Ena Sharples came fourth with 20 votes (6.6%). She was one of the original Corrie OAPs, holding the mantle between 1960 and 1980. Close behind with 19 votes (6.27%) came Betty Turpin.

Jack Duckworth came sixth with 18 votes (5.94%), Phyllis Pearce came seventh with 13 votes (4.29%) and Vera Duckworth came eighth with 12 votes (3.96%).

Tied in ninth place were Emily Bishop and Audrey Roberts with 11 votes (3.63%) while Corrie's recent OAP Dennis Tanner came tenth with 10 votes (3.3%).

Albert Tatlock received 9 votes (2.97%) while his one-time fiancée Minnie Caldwell came twelfth with 8 votes (2.64%). Both Percy Sugden and Ken Barlow received 6 votes (1.98%) and came thirteenth.

Norris Cole came fourteenth with 5 votes (1.65%) while Maud Grimes received 3 votes (0.99%) and came fifteenth.

Martha Longhurst received 1 vote (0.33%) while Sam Tindall sadly didn't receive any votes.

  1. Toughest quiz yet... some of them though I don't really think of as OAPs, especially the Duckworths, not that they weren't still brilliant later on. Likewise, Audrey to me will always be the flighty fortysomething driving Alf crazy.

Voted for Albert, my all-time favourite character.

  2. Blanche, best pensioner? Quite right too. She was so mean and nasty but hilarious with it, and sometimes brutally honest. I really miss her. The AA meeting will never be matched.

  3. I'm not surprised to See Blanche win the title. I don't think there are enough of us old-time viewers left for the likes of Albert, Ena or Minnie to win.
