Coronation Street's new producer Stuart Blackburn
has revealed a few spoilers, or at least teasers, about upcoming Street storylines.
In an interview with TV Times, via Digital Spy, Stuart reveals the following about our favourite soap:
On Hayley Cropper leaving - "We're a long way
off that storyline. Obviously Roy and Hayley are now going to be
central to the show for the next 10 or 11 months. All I can say is that
we're working on the most beautiful, moving story we can find."
On Stella and Karl - "There's a long way to go for
Stella, Karl and the pub - we've got some really strong, powerful stuff
coming up for them."
On David and Kylie - "I love that
young couple and their relationship with the rest of their family."
On Peter and Carla - "There's
a big storyline ahead for Peter and Carla, we're going to be moving
them on apace."
On Tracy Barlow - "Tracy's been relatively quiet of late - she'll come back
to the fore."
On the Rovers Return fire - Blackburn promises that the look of The
Rovers Return will not change and that "rumours it's going to get bigger and
become a B&B are nonsense". He added: "The story at the
moment is that Stella is the landlady, and when the pub's burnt down,
we'll see her battle to get it back to where it was."
On new families - Blackburn said there are no immediate plans to introduce new families to
Weatherfield, as he will be concentrating on making sure existing
characters are working "as best they can".
On his vision for the
show, he commented: "It's about going back to basics, to the very first
episode of Corrie in 1960. Right from the start, it was witty and warm
but it wasn't nostalgic, it wasn't whimsical, it was an act of
rebellion.
"It was the first time a popular TV drama had tackled the lives and loves of the working classes. That, for me, is what Coronation Street is, and what I want it to be while I'm here - 21st century stories about real, believable working class people."

I hope he's decided to keep David and Kylie together, they're my favourite couple in the show.

ReplyDeleteIt does seem like the same names are going to continue to dominate...
Oh, NO! NO more TRACY, I'm begging you Mr. Blackburn, puleeze! Unless it's her deathbed or leaving Corrie forever scene. You say you want more realism for Corrie. Well Tracy is a totally unrealistic character. Anyone that awful would have been run out of town by now. She's boring and predictable, and despite all her drama and smirking, she's not even a little bit entertaining. Any time she walks into a room, I can predict exactly what she's going to do. If there's an attractive man, she'll flirt with him, and if it's a woman or a man she has no interest in, she'll say something mean and start a ruckus, and then smirk. Corrie deserves better characters than this boring mess.
ReplyDeleteHe isn't giving away much: lots of big storylines coming is about the gist of it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't find any of that very illuminating. He's been wheeled out to make a statement and, if he was a politician, it would mean he's got nothing to say. Sounds like they're still round the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteMr Blackburn if you want to axe anyone can if please be boring Gail McIntyre. Her acting is awful and as for her facial expressions, she looks constipated.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Peter and Carla are finally going to get a good storyline away from the Leanne/Nick nonsense.
ReplyDeleteEven if it involves the horror that is Tracey Barlow. That's fine with me as long as I don't have to watch two of my favourite characters - who I think work brilliantly together as a couple - go round in circles.
Hayley's exit/death is going to be very emotional.
Most of what he said was very encouraging and he didn't use the words explosive or dramatic once. "21st century stories about real, believable working class people". Yes, please.
ReplyDeleteSix words spoilt it. "She'll (Tracy) come back to the fore". There is nothing real, believable or even workin class about Tracy. She lives life as a lady of leisure and can't do the accent.
Despite a few glimmers of hope, this is a very depressing interview. Don't the Powers That Be read what viewers think on forums such as this blog? Sure there are always a diversity of opinions, but two issues that arise time and again are that most viewers don't enjoy the characters of Tracy and Stella. From the moment Stella arrived, she was forced into every story-line (including, shamefully, Betty's exit) and rammed down our throats. The character doesn't work and doesn't fit in. Giving her more prominence isn't going to make us like her more! As for the mess which is Tracy Barlow, she is not a villainness that we 'love to hate'. She is a cardboard cutout with no redeeming human foibles, portrayed by an actress with an extremely limited range. And let's not forget, Tracy killed a man in cold blood and was later set free on a technicality so that we could 'enjoy' more of her unbelievable antics. This was extremely unlikely in legal terms, and a morally reprehensible lesson to viewers that you can murder on a whim and evade retribution.
ReplyDeleteI am so tired of watching Gail's face and her roving eyeballs when she talks to someone. Her many different voices and pasty looking makeup hard to take. I hold up my hand to cover her face on screen and wish she would disappear into the background.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't say much at all really but I did take comfort in the fact that in the small amount he did say "sensational" nor "explosive" were mentioned. That's got to be some kind of progress right from the loony days of Collinson?
ReplyDeleteHowever bringing Tracy to the fore other than for her death bed scenes is depressing indeed and fills me with dread :( Please, please Mr Blackburn do us a favour, listen to the viewers and get rid of the streets worst character and you will go down in Corrie history as a hero, even if you do little else!

ReplyDeleteIf these boards had the chance to vote a recommend against a post, the above would get one.
Sad to see that he has no plans to get rid of Tully though.
Why in the world would a new producer threaten his viewing audience with bringing Tracy to the fore..whatever that means. Well, I'm not going to watch that's for sure. The character should be planted permanently instead of teasers..getting our hopes up and then she's back... spouting the same vile one-liners and is never taken to task...ever.
ReplyDeleteThey tried to pair her up with Beth..their own place hoping it would generate some sort of comic relief..it fell flat. They tried to have her in some sort of life and death crisis with a kidney infection hoping it would generate some sympathy for this character. It fell flat too. She has to go..I'm sorry, but that's just my two cents.
Please don't get Karl and Stella back together, he's vile.....let him run into the Rover's fire to try and save Stella, and then Sunita can run in to save Karl....and Stella be ok and recovering around the back in the ginnel or thereabouts, thus ridding the street of Karl and Sunita, they can be the two bods lost in the fire.....and not a tear was shed....
ReplyDeleteCould someone from Charlie's family show up and challenge
ReplyDeleteTracy's release and have a technicality in the
law found to get her sent back to prison?
If someone would contact Kerstie's family they would find out that Kerstie has been known to be violent. Her father has been the same,. Also Tyrone was at the hospital for treatment after Kerstie beat him up -- the hospital must have records. So long Tracey - hello Janice?? Tommy needs a job - it would make him much happier - he frowns too much,.
ReplyDeleteyes tell lloyd to grow up
