Georgia May Foote, who plays Katy Armstrong in Coronation Street, has been interviewed on the official Corrie website at itv.com/corrie where she talks about an upcoming surrogacy story for Katy and Izzy.
Katy will offer herself to her sister Izzy as a surrogate mum so that Izzy and Gary can have a child of their own. Gary will be over the moon about Katy's idea but Izzy takes a bit more convincing that Katy is doing it for the right reasons. However, Katy hasn't talked to Chesney about her plans yet and is worried about what he'll say when he finds out. Owen finds out what Katy's plans are during baby Joseph's christenig and there's a bit of a punch up (we have pictures here!).
Asked how she feels about wearing the baby bump again, Georgia said: " I’m dreading it, because I hated it last time! The pins stick in your sides and it’s so heavy! I never thought for a minute I’d be wearing it again so soon!"
There's more information on Izzy's pregnancy and her medical condition at the Hypermobility website.

Oh for heaven's sake, this is just ridiculous! An underaged, underemployed mother of a newborn is going to be a surrogate to her disabled, underemployed sister and her boyfriend? Trash, plain and simple. This storyline does nothing except emphasize a culture of selfishness where babies are little more than accessories for children who must be endulged.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that next summer we are going to see yet another 'miracle' soap opera birth. Can Corrie hire writers that don't just clone other storylines? I'd like to see Eileen preggers...late life pregnancy and all that goes with it.
ReplyDeleteI don't want another pregnancy. I remember when Tommy suggested it to Tina but she turned him down, seems like someone in the street has a brain and doesn't want to jump straight into having kids. These child related storylines are boring, especially when the kid vanishes and is barely seen at all.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact that Izzy and Gary are two of the more interesting characters on Corrie, I must say that I am disappointed in this storyline. I get the sense that both characters are rushing into things too quickly; having just lost their baby, I would imagine that they would both need some time to recover from their loss and take some time to think things over before making any drastic decisions.
ReplyDeleteI am now wondering whether the writers have run out of ideas for Gary and Izzy's characters and they believed that starting a family was the next step forward for them. Considering how great these two characters and actors are, I do hope this storyline is handled well and is not the beginning of the end for them.
Having said all of this, I am sure Gary and Izzy would make good parents and there has always been a certain degree of intelligence, trust and understanding between them. It has been lovely to see their relationship grow since 2010.
Absurd indeed!! Katy is what...17?, just had a baby and the three of them can barely support themselves...Gary and Izzy hardly work at well paying career jobs and does Underworld have maternity leave....if not, they only have Gary's income. I guess Owen will support them all including Anna and Faye and pay for the IVF??? Are they wanting multiple births on the street so Julie can open a daycare?....Jack,Joseph, Hope and Baby Gizzy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments above. Does Katy even work and has she ever had a proper job aside from assisting Chesney at the market? Did she even finish school? These characters can barely support themselves financially, let alone be able to pay for IVF and raise a child.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This story line is really dull to me. Come on, Corrie! More imagination! Less teen pregnancy!
