After losing it and decamping to Roy's Rolls in tears when his Alzheimer's wife started tearing up their wedding photos, Paul reluctantly agreed he had lost the old Lesley and she needed to be a specialist residential care home. He and Eileen, with the help of Dr Matt, dropped her in for a month's trial and she seemed to settle in well. No wonder, the home looked more like some plush 5 star hotel with expensive flower arrangements and staff so saintly they practically had halos over their heads - was this realistic, I wonder?
Sunita refused Dev's surprise idea of a holiday break in Majorca when she found out it was actually at a golf resort and he hadn't bothered to consult her. So he jetted off solo with the children, leaving Sunita conveniently free to invite Karl in for a cosy chat over a glass of wine. He admitted it was he who faked the robbery at the Rovers in order to pay his gambling debts.
The psycho, cue music from Jaws alert on jealous Kirsty is edging ever higher. She threw a tantrum and chucked Tyrone's dinner on the floor when he arrived back late from the Rovers, only to find it was because he had been comforting Tommy who had just found out his grandfather had died. She's bigger than you Tyrone, watch out!
It is quite difficult, I fear, to care about the worthy but rather boring "daddy day care" sub plot involving Sean, his son Dylan and his keen-to-adopt-another child boyfriend Marcus…

Well St Ella's halo has been slipping of late, why does she keep blaming Sunita and Tina when money goes missing and not look beyond the end of her usually interfering nose? Stevie Wonder could see that her gambling addict boyfriend staged the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteMarcus and Sean..point please? Other than to have a token gay couple on the street, I don't see any. The re-hashed plot of Dylan coming to stay and Sean and Marcus discussing the pros and cons of adoption again unless it's a lead in to Violet suddenly passing away and Sean has to keep Dylan with him. Whatever happens, it is abysmally boring and the over acting trying to be cute and all momsy/popsy is gagging me big time. Get a better storyline for these two already. They need their own place for one thing.
ReplyDeleteKirsty is truly scary, isn't she? Was the story she told Tina about her ex and her best friend true or just a cover for her rampant jealousy I wonder? I fear for Tyrone!
ReplyDeleteI cannot stand Paul, he is a useless character and doesn't go with Eileen at all . Eileen and Lesley have more on screen chemistry.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wasted opportunity to show the destruction Alzheimer's causes. Judith Holt really should get an award for her performance. Apart from her, the story line didn't ring true and Paul's character was repellent. I appreciate we were supposed to empathise with his predicament but he couldn't get that across. It would be interesting if Paul and Eileen get together but he is so ravaged with guilt that he spends all his time at the home.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I have some experience with Alzheimers (my mother had it) and yes, some care homes *are* that nice and look like hotels.
