Coronation Street spoiler: Sophie Webster to become a junkie

There's a Coronation Street spoiler in today's Mirror that claims Corrie is going to turn Sophie Webster into a junkie. And not only that, there's a rumour in the same story that Ryan Connor is set to return to the Street - and he's the one who gives her the drugs.

The paper says that Sophie is set to become addicted to crack. Sophie, who was left heartbroken earlier this year when lesbian lover Sian Powers ditched her at the altar, will be introduced to crack by returning character Ryan Connor.

Ryan (Ben Thompson) was last seen on Corrie in 2010, when he dated Sian before quitting Wetherfield to head off to university in Scotland.

The insider added: “Ryan returns after spending two years in Glasgow, where he has picked up some alarming traits which he quickly passes on to Sophie. He comes back as a very dark character indeed and is set to have a damaging impact on several of the soap’s younger characters.”

Shades of Holly Barton in Emmerdale, is it a coincidence that Sally Dynvor (Webster)'s husband is an Emmerdale writer in that the stories so often mirror each other?

Anything with Shreaking Sophie in I wind forward. A terrible actress.

  2. Good grief.
If Ryan's coming back, please let them recast the actor
And i really really REALLY don't believe Sophie would do this. He may offer, but i find it past credibility that she'd do it

  3. This is an incredible storyline. Sophie wouldn't do this. More headline grabbing from Mr Collinson yet again. Just shoving in another public information service curtesy from Coronation Street. It will all be forgotten a few weeks later! It would be far more credible with somebody like Amber..... who by the way seems to have vanished..... where is she???? Not that I'm complaining mind, she should have taken shouty, foldy arms Sophie with her!

  4. We've seen Sophie turn to alcohol in the past when she was under emotional strain. It isn't such a stretch to believe that she might be tempted by something stronger, if offered to her by someone she trusts and considers a friend who catches her at a weak moment. And from there it's a slippery slope. I don't find that so implausible.

  5. Someone from Granada management needs to sit the producer down and tell him he's too hyper and to calm down; whatever next, one of the cast gets converted into becoming a suicide bomber?

  6. If they bring back Ryan Connor I really hope they re-cast him that lad that portrayed him in the past was a terrible actor.

Sorry but I don't think the actress who plays Sophie will be able to carry this off.

If it is anything like the Holly Barton storyline I'll be fast forwarding through it that's for sure.

  7. The wonderful Jez Quigley was Leanne's nemesis in a drugs story wasn't he? Somehow think this story won't be anywhere near as powerful.

If they do go down this route, I sincerely hope it won't be another headline grabbing inaccurate plot-driven fable from soapy-la-la land and will have some semblance of accuracy.

  8. Your comment made me laugh, Danny K. I think that Collinson does need to have a lie down in a darkened room. Having just read a few comments here, I think fans are heartily sick of these kind of stories.

  9. Not Helmet Head Ryan back, I also hope they recast the actor who was more wooden than a tent pole, or this will be terrible and not believable at all.

  10. Just how much longer are they going to let Collinson ruin the programme? This guy must need some serious physiotherapy at the rate he is vigourously patting himself on the back for what he considers his great storylines many of which seem to be "borrowed" from other sources.
This particular storyline is so lame and unbelievable he should be ashamed of himself (fat chance of that happening).
If I was the major sponsor of Corrie I would be having a serious discussion with ITV about the direction Collinson is taking the programme.

  12. This show is going down the tubes again. It's turned into something that I am not interested in watching anymore. Thanks for the memories tho, Corrie.

  13. Please please sack Phil Collinson. Did he not recently admit they had way too many violent storylines? Well this will deteriorate into another one of those depressing ,puke producing stories. For pity's sake,if I wanted rape, murders, domestic violence (Kirsty) and drug taking,I'd be watching EE...just when I thought it was safe to switch on again.

  14. I agree. Can we have a few weeks of calm and good humour again. I get depressed just thinking about how miserable these new storylines are going to be. A good murder was a bit of fun but come on. Please don't make corrie a moaning depressing programme. It is there to enjoy not feel bad about.

  15. Geez, another family problem for Sally, she had breast cancer, her hubby has a chid with another woman and she finds this out in the ruins of a horrible tram crash from the baby's dying mother, she is almost killed by the killer of her ex-boyfriend whom she now knows is despicable did rape Carla and now saintly Sophie will delve into the drug underworld - guess it will be a while before she gets back on that high high horse of hers.

  16. If they want young characters to have lead stories, might it be an idea to employ proper actors rather than a couple of Woodentops?

  17. Ummm... has it occurred to those of you queueing up to denounce PC as the spawn of the Devil and lament (yet again) Corrie going 'down the tubes' that this is a totally unsubstantiated piece of gossip from the Mirror? You lot seem to be assuming this is an established fact and there's been some sort of official announcement.

This is the Mirror who a week or so ago announced authoritatively that Sophie Webster was 'turning straight'. That was denied quite forcefully by a clearly bewildered Corrie press office.

My guess is that there's a bored lazy journo at the mirror, short of a story, who's made something up so he can get to the pub. Plus it gives them an opportunity to republish photos of Brooke Vincent looking glamorous in a tight skimpy frock.

If this turns out to be an actual storyline I'll be very, very surprised.

  20. This COULD be a way of getting Sacha Parkinson (Sian Powers) back into the show, if Sophie does get into drugs then Sally and Kevin might try to get Sian to come back and make Sophie cop on, Sian might be the only one who can get the old Sophie back
