Rita and Dennis getting married is something we fans have voted for here on the Coronation Street Blog.
And the paper goes on to say that away from the cameras, the partnership between Barbara Knox (Rita) and Philip Lowrie (Dennis) has blossomed into a “lovely” friendship.
The Corrie source goes on to say: “It is the talk of the cast that Rita finds herself falling in love with Dennis – and that she could actually become Mrs Tanner after all those years since Elsie was a fixture around the cobbles. Barbara, like Pat Phoenix, who played Elsie, is a legend and everyone thinks it would be a terrific move for Rita to get married again at this stage in her life. Who would give her away is the big question being asked at the moment – there is one name in the frame to walk her down the aisle or be with her at the registry office and if that materialises there wouldn’t be a dry eye up and down the country.”
It's no secret that my favourite Coronation Street character ever is Rita Sullivan and if this wedding happens, I reckon it'll be a good story - and fitting for Rita too. Perhaps Norris could give her away?

Hm not sure about this one. I am a big fan of Dennis and am mad that he isnt being used and yet they trawl back the unlikely idiot Lewis and give him another storyline! Are the producers potty?

ReplyDeleteWho on earth could give Rita away? The only man I can think of is Ken Barlow, and I can't see many people getting emotional over that! I hope it does work out. Rita ia a brilliant character and another Mrs Tanner on the Street after all these years would be wonderful. Dennis is a character worth hanging on to too.
ReplyDeleteKen, Norris or Mavis would be fitting to walk her down the aisle. Most of her friends have passed away. This is a great storyline for Rita and it marks her ruby anniversary on the Street. :) I love Rita!
ReplyDeleteNobody has to walk her down the aisle. Dennis and Rita themselves could just stand up to the registrar. I think it would be a lovely story!

This would be a perfect excuse for the producers to bring back some of the old characters. I would love it..maybe they would actually use Rita and Dennis in some stories??
