Just got home from work and treated myself to a hot cup of tea, a selection box and the Christmas special of Coronation Street.
This years Christmas episode has to be my favourite since 2004, there was so many great moments. Rita singing was fantastic and good call back to Hilda Ogden's exit, and also to Rita's singing career, the new Kabin was an unexpected surprised and John spending Christmas with Charlotte's parents was hilarious. I loved the end of the episode too. It felt like an actual Christmas special, rather than just another episode which happened to take place on Christmas Day.
Which was you favourite moment?
RITA WAS AMAZING :)

It made me feel a warm glow inside, unlike Eastenders.
ReplyDeleteBecky attacking Tracy was the best bit. She really is an awful character, completely unlikeable. On this occasion, Gail is completely in the right, I loved her attacking Tracy last night! Deirdre ought to shut up, she's so blinded it's unreal.
ReplyDeleteTracy's character was better before she got put away, I actually felt sorry for her, and thought Charlie had probably driven her to the point of insanity. I hope she's only back for a brief period, I don't think there's anywhere for Tracy to go really...
I love both Corrie and EastEnders, but they were both nasty and very, very ugly this Christmas. Surprisingly, Coronation Street managed to outstrip EastEnders - even with that show's stabbing.
ReplyDeleteThe spectacle of Tracey and Becky brawling like animals in the Rovers was grim. Becky's already become a nasty piece of work, following the looting. And with all the goading going on from the spectators... Dear oh dear, just ugly, and nasty, and pointless. I might as well watch Hollyoaks.
Not good at all, and a low point for Coronation Street. Rita's singing was lovely, but it was too little too late.
I was working Xmas day too Chewy. I enjoyed the Xmas special, it was far better than the previous episodes which I thought were dire, what with Tracy-luv's convoluted explanation re. being out on bail (puh-LEEZE!)"I'm just out of jail, me" in killer heels & fishnets? I think not. Yawned at the predictable hair-puller in the Rover's. But yeah, thought the Xmas day episode was not bad, Tracy aside.
ReplyDeleteYea, everything was fantastic, except for Tracey. She's dragging the show down, even her lines were terrible. What WAS with the fishnets and the latest fashion in heels on her, right out of prison? I got the feeling even Kate Ford is not enjoying this, overplaying to compensate more than ever before!
ReplyDeleteCorrie's been so good lately that I could just about ignore the big T and enjoy the rest.
Agree about Tracy dragging the show down, was Kate Ford's acting every this bad? She is a totally unbelievable character the way she speaks to everyone and treats them like dirt and er Chewy, I cannot believe you thought the every more ridiculous John Stape farce funny in that he leaves his sick baby to eat dinner with the parents of the woman he murdered??????? Awful, new writers needed pronto. Emmerdale was so much better.
ReplyDeleteGreat episodes, but too much bloody Tracy Barlow. Get rid of her quick!
ReplyDeleteI am sure Rita was miming last night - not sure though if it was to herself.
ReplyDeleteTracy really was shocking; the nadir was throwing red wine over her daughter's Christmas outfit just so she would wear the crappy fairy outfit stitched by the Merry Murderess of D Wing, thus showing the mothering skills of Mother Gothel in Disney's new movie Tangled! This is panto villain territory and sticks out like a sore thumb, rather as Stephen Fry's detective did in the movie Gosford Park. The entire acting style of the individual performer is at odds with the house style of the programme. Even the old self-centred Tracy would not have spoken with such utter flippant callousness to Clair about the death of her husband 'Thinky'. The writers seem, I'm forced to conclude, to be pratting about. Is it an 'end of term' larkiness that's crept into their work after the almost Shakespearian grangeur of much of the Anniversary storylines? Needs to tighten up again - quick!
ReplyDeleteWe don't need Tracy-luv, especially after the spectacular anniversary episodes. She is really dragging Corrie down.Really don't like the character or the actress.
ReplyDeleteThe episode would have been great if you could just cut anything with Tracy and Becky out.
ReplyDeleteI agree Tracy's been rubbish so far. She's not a character you can love to hate -she's just horrible in a really weird, irritating way. I can't tell whether she's meant to be weird or not, but she 'dances' 'sexily' in a really weird way, and she has a weird way of talking. Why did she say "Wotcher" to Claire? Who says that? Is she supposed to be out of touch because she's been in jail for 3 years or something? Half of the Xmas day episode was just Tracy randomly being nasty to people, and it was just rubbish.
ReplyDeleteLet's start a petition - TRACEY OUT! TRACEY OUT!
ReplyDelete@frosty the snowman - the storyline is meant to be a black comedy, John is something of a parody of Richard Hillman
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like the episode was the Tracy show, as she seemed to dominate. It was better than I thought it would be, (I had very low expectations), but in the end it toppled into farce. Why did Tracy have to be so unremittingly nasty to everyone? Yes, she might feud with Becky and Gail, but why Claire? And the attempts to explain Steve's supine behaviour were farcical. They were right when they kept saying to Tracy: "You can't do that". So why did Steve let her?
ReplyDelete^ Because there's a whodunnit on the way? ^ ;)
ReplyDeleteI loved Rita singing "Just another Winter Tale" It was so apt for the episode. David Essex sings it ok but it's nothing like Rita's version.Would love to download her singing it.
ReplyDeleteSee my comment above!
ReplyDeleteThat was definitely Barbara Knox's voice, I can recognise it.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely Barbara's voice but I think you'll find she was miming to a backing track of her voice. She definitely wasn't singing live.
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten how bad an actress Kate Ford is. Her portrayal of Tracy is just awful and if as Phil Collinson has said, there are big things in store for Tracy in 2011 then I for one will switch off - yep, she's that bad!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a big shame though, what with the anniversary episodes so amazing. Only two weeks ago everybody was raving, rightfully so, at the story, writing, acting! To now be cringing and critisising with the entrance of Tracy.
Somebody has written on another post that even if Tracy is bad she has certainly kept he talking about Corrie. Maybe so, we may be talking, but it's not much good if most of us have switched off - lol!
I don't know how much of her nastiness and fighting with the McDonald's I can take. In what other direction can they take the character. She is so nasty to everybody that there is no redeeming qualities to her at all, along with the fact that she's played by such a dreadful actress.
Also, what is wrong with Deidre? Tracy confessed all to her before she went to prison, so Deidre knows that she did it, there is no miscarriage of justice, so to stand there and say "Oh Tracy-Luv that's wonderful" when she knows full well that she's guilty!
On a different note, Rita singing was a lovely way to finish the Christmas episode as was Ken's poem on Christmas eve.
It looks that recent rumours maybe true with Sally and Kevin raising baby Jack - looked as though things were heading in that direction to me.... anyone else think the same?
Oh and the Kabin on wheels was hilarious - can't wait to see the two of them in action out on the streets!
