In praise of Alan Halsall

One constant in the ever-changing world of Weatherfield at the moment, has been Alan Halsall's fab acting skills as Tyrone Dobbs.  Before the tram crash, before Molly ripped his heart out and told him she was leaving, before planting one on best mate Kevin and knocking him into Molly's grave, Tyrone had me in tears over the death of Jack Duckworth.

I reckon Alan Halsall has long been under-rated an actor, almost as much as Tyrone has been overlooked as a character. Let's face it, Tyrone's not got the looks or the brains to be up there nominated for any Sexiest Motor Mechanic in a Soap awards, but by 'eck Alan Halsall does certainly deserve more recognition for the emotion, the heart, he puts into Tyrone Dobbs. Coping with having Jackie Dobbs as a mother, Jack Duckworth as a surrogate father, and now this baby business and falling out with his best mate Kev.

Tyrone's future on the Street is going to be one to watch. Will he cope without Molly? Will he keep baby Jack? Will his mother come back?  And, well,  I don't know about you, but I couldn't be more excited about Tyrone and Sally getting together this Christmas.

  1. I couldn't agree more. Last night's performance was intense. The way you could see Tyrone putting everything together finally at the graveside was gut wretching. I think that everyone involved in the Kevin/Molly plot yesterday was absolutely outstanding and we cheered loudly when Kevin ended up in the grave.

  3. alan's a nice bloke but I've never really rated him that highly as an actor but he's been great in recent episodes. Note to writers: Give him something to get his teeth into and he can come up with the goods.

  5. Ty and Sally? Yuk...it's got even less sizzle than Molvin... Now if we're talking Tyrone and Dev and little baby Jack -- that's something new, something different to look foward to... Two Mechanics and a baby...

  6. Was thinking the same as you Nora. A very good actor - please writers, let him have some decent stuff to do!

Although Tyrone has been in some cracking scenes, realistically Tyrone staying in the Street after the death of Jack, the horrible death of Molly and the realisation that his best friend and business partne had betrayed him, leaves the character untenable and he would have to leave the street, either him or Kevin, it would just not be believable for them to carry on living side by side and working in the garage.
