Claudia Colby, Landlady of the Rovers

As you know, Rula Lenska is bringing Claudia Colby back to our screens on New Year's Eve. She may try to open a rival salon around the corner but the Mirror thinks she's also going to make a play for the Landlady-ship of the Rovers when Liz leaves.

I can't quite get my head around that possibility though it's possible she may may a play for it. But Steve owns it and I can't see the connection there. It does raise the question, however, of who's name *will* go over the door after the departure of Elizabeth Jane McDonald. Neither Steve nor Becky can have the license as they have criminal records so who does that leave? Maybe Lloyd, or, maybe Leanne can finally have a bar! Maybe Andy, as the only McDonald with a clean record, could return!

  1. Wow I hope she doesnt became the landlady. What a turn off. Surely you cant have a character who really isnt a main one, as the landlady.

  2. I like the Leanne idea. It gets her away from Nick and she'd be good at it.

  3. Steve is in a lot of debt, so maybe he will sell the pub to clear his debts?

  4. I read that natalie barns will come back and run it but thats a rumour, and i doubt it

  5. What if Nick bought it, and Gail runs the pub? Since she don't have a job anymore.

Anonmymous, Gail behind the bar? You must be potty. She would turn the beer sour with that face.

I think Claudia would be a fantastic landlady although she would probably drink most of the profits. Make the Rovers a fun place again instead of the all the tiresome Steve and Becky constant angstfests and shouting matches. Why on earth does a "regular" character have to buy it? We need fresh new blood and charcters and Claudia is ideal. Bring her on!!

  7. Leanne is a possible, I think she did a spot of pulling pints in the Rovers before didn't she? Problem with Leanne is that whatever she tries her hand at either goes up in flames (her restaurant) or explodes (the bar).

Claudia would be good short-term mainly cos it would be a hoot. Most of the time she would be drunk.

I can't see sour-faced Gail behind the bar. She would wear her 'sucking lemons' blouse which would turn all the beer sour.

  8. They need to keep Steve behind the bar in some form. He's (rightly) the closest Corrie has to a central main character so he should be at the heart of it all. It'd be a demotion if he was just running Streetcars

  9. I do like the character of Claudia but her voice just goes through me, I couldn't stand her to be the landlady. But what I can see happening is Claudia and Deidre having a new Friendship, for they both have those husky voices. I would like to see someone else be the landlord/lady though maybe a completely new character? Who revamps the inside of the rovers and has a new family and new storylines and drama to bring to the street.

  10. As much as I love Steve, I am a bit tired of the McDonalds at the Rovers, and hopefully it would mean less Becky screentime. I think Claudia running the Rover's could be a good idea, as long as they try to establish her character a bit first.

  11. I think Graeme would be a fun character behind the bar.

Claudia as the owner? Nahhhh. She sounds a bit too pompous for the street.

  13. Why bring in Claudia when they have just brought Tina in as a barmaid. I think that the original idea was to have her as the Landlady and now they want another old bag as landlady.
    That's just dumb.

  14. Steve is going to re-mortgage so I can see him getting into difficulties with the repayments in a few months time - plenty of time for Claudia to be established as a character.
I wish there were some plans to bring Sunittas 2 mad aunties back - they were a scream!

  15. I agree with gummygobbler. Steve's in the process of re-mortgaging (the plank), he's had Owen's cheque bounce already and I think he's going to end up losing the Rover's to the bank - or, he'll bring in a partner.

  16. Rula Lenska would be perfect as landlady of the Rover's.
    Enough with the misfits.

Claudia Colby, an interesting choice...we need someone other than Sally Webster who thinks she's better than everyone else..shades of a drunken Annie Walker maybe??

  18. I think it'd be great to have a larger-than-life character in charge of the Rovers once again. But personally I'd love it if Maureen Lipman could be persuaded to return long term, as her character Lillian was pure Annie Walker... still, IMHO, far and away the best Landlady the Rovers has ever had.
