Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson willbe at Manchester Metropolitan University on Saturday giving tips to budding writers. He'll lead a workshop for people looking to get into the industry, giving tips on plotting storylines and writing in teams.
Julie Wilkinson, senior lecturer at the university, said: “It will be a crucible of ideas for all sorts of television shows. Soaps are a very important starting ground for writers and we wanted to put new writers in touch with the people making programmes. Phil Collinson is a fantastic producer. He’s got such a good track record of appealing to big audiences, but also kids and families. He’s only just beginning to have an impact on the stories in Coronation Street, so we can’t know quite what he’s going to do there yet.”
One of the projects the workshop will focus on is a script written by Mr Collinson that was never aired.
The workshop is the first of two organised by Manchester Met and Edge Hill University, in Liverpool. They are aimed at writers who have written scripts before and have some production experience. Saturday workshop will run from 10am-4pm
.

Er, without wishing to be rude I think Phil and the Corrie scriptwriters could do with a few lessons lately in credibility and continuty!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! The odd and boring plotlines of late indicate that the writers themselves need to check into a course or two in good storywriting!
ReplyDeleteHee hee! Cheeky buggers!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't help it - laughed out loud on reading the two posts above.
That's laughing with you
- not at you.
Absolutely agree. The Xmas episode was utterly unbelievable culminating in the return of Tracey, the worst move yet. She can neither act nor is her character believable in any way. Just sensationalism No-one is that vile.
ReplyDeleteHer acting is bad, the scripts are worse.
What planet are the scriptwriters on to think we will swallow the garbage they are churning out ? The writing is appalling . I suggest they all go on a course along with Phil Collinson, never mind running one !
I predict that the Tracey storyline and the utterly unbelievable John Stape storyline will bring Corrie down . It's that bad. How do the actors keep straight faces, I wonder?
I dont believe that it is supposed to relay an overall sense of realism, its tounge in cheek, tracy barlow and rosie webster are terrible actors but heck, they are good, they have consistency in bad! and that has to be good??
ReplyDeleteI think he needs a few basic lessons , the quality of writing for Corrie is so poor recently.
