Janice Battersby to leave the Street

Janice Battersby is the leaving Coronation Street after 14 years, it has been confirmed today.

Actress Vicky Entwistle is bowing out to pursue other acting projects, but praised Corrie for all it has given her.

New Producer Phil Collinson said: "Vicky created a strong and uncompromising battleaxe with a heart of gold lurking underneath - in the true tradition of great Coronation Street women. She'll be missed by us all and we wish her well.”

She's the latest in a long line leaving the show this year.

I, for one, am gutted at this news, albeit not too surprised. I'm really going to miss Janice on the show, and will especially miss the mother-daughter relationship between her and Leanne. Do I smell another tram crash victim?

  1. I've grown on Janice and her relationship with Leanne and her rivalry with Sally.

  2. If she's been involved in shooting scenes, or has some knowledge of the tram/viaduct scripts, then maybe with the writing on the wall she's just jumping ship before being pushed???

  3. Shame she didn't announce it earlier, she could have gone off into the sunset with Trev

  4. Reads to me like she's been pushed. Shame, she's great is Janice.

  5. I wish VE success and happiness in her new endeavors, but I will miss Janice. She was part of a front burner story when I started watching Corrie, so maybe she's a little extra special to me. She's great with Leanne, the factory gang, even with the Barlows, she's always good for a laugh. Or a cry. The idea of Leanne getting married with no family with whom she can share the joys and tribulations is just sad. Brassy, streetwise, not someone I'd be friends with, even so, Janice really adds a spark to the street.

I hope they don't make her a tram victim, just in case, for weddings, babies, etc.

  6. I like Janice a lot and will be sorry to see her go. She is funny and I love the way she takes the mickey out of Sally and Rosie. She brings both down to earth with a smack from their high and mighty ways. She has a sarcastic wit about her which others don't have. I hope she isn't a tram victim but if she is then hopefully they would be able to bring Toyah back for a stint.

  7. Oh why oh why can't it be Sally who's leaving? For that matter -- keep Janice and boot off the Websters -- all of them don't amount to the spunk and pathos brought about by the Janice character.

  8. Janice hasn't had a decent storyline in ages - the Trev thing was just sad. I'm really sorry that she's leaving.

  9. I'm sorry too; always sad to lose someone you've come to know...has there ever so many actors leaving the show at the same time before?
I suppose this major tram tragedy was devised to get rid of selected characters; the actors must be feeling quite insecure, what a shame.

  10. I'll miss Janice. Really good character, utterly vile at times, genuinely very nice at times, and yet always believable. Well written, well played. Most recently brilliant when Kelly left.

  11. According to the Mirror, it was after "rows with boss"... that'll be the same rows that Steven Arnold
    had then... which never happened.

There's SO much crap written about soap these days, it's hard for Joe Public to believe what it the truth and what isn't. In truth 50% is all just rubbish.

I think Janice had served her time, to be honest, and she was appallingly treated in 2005 by ex producer Kieran Roberts.

(Made her have her head shaved on camera)

  12. Good riddance I say. Can't stand the character.

  13. She looks like an aging bulldog on the screen. But whenever I see her pics off screen she is a real looker....even 'hot' one might say. Which is the real person?

  14. "VICKY Entwistle yesterday denied she quit Corrie over bust-ups with Phil Collinson.

Vicky, 41, who plays Janice Battersby, said she made her decision before the new boss arrived.

Reports suggested there were rows over plotlines.

But Vicky, walking her dogs with hubby Andrew Chapman yesterday, said: "There was no bust-up. Phil is lovely. I wanted to shake off a character I've played for 14 years." She has a new role lined up."

from the Sun, confirming she wasnt pushed :p I hate how the press are trying to paint Phil as an axeman, he actually cares about the show
