Why David Neilson believes in Roy and Hayley

Roy Cropper is undeniably a Coronation Street gem. And in an interview, David Neilson, who plays Roy, says that he always turns down offers to make public appearances in character, because he doesn't want to make a mockery of Roy.

He said: "I get invited to perform as Roy but I can't do it without the scripts, and I am really careful with him. He is not a mainstream character that can interact with people. He wouldn't be in that position and it would make a mockery of him and the creation is important to me. I believe in Roy and Hayley and that they run a little cafe somewhere."

The article revals that David is a lot older than I thought he was - he's 60 but looking good on it, don't you think?

And speaking of Roy and Hayley... why won't Corrie marry them legally now that they can? Read more on that here.

  1. The Corrie writers are SAVING this wedding! In cold storage to be taken out and used just in the nick of time for maximum effect! Perhaps they may decide to legally adopt (maybe even a child overseas...African?) ...and wanting everything to be proper - decide to take care of this loose end!!! Well then! I'd dearly like an invite to this wedding!

  2. I, too believe in Roy and Hayley, a cute couple who are as lovely as they are kind. They run a cafe/ greasy spoon somewhere on a street lined with cobblestones serving mostly breakfast and lunch to the locals.

And would give anything to be able to go and live there for a while...eat all my breakfasts and lunches (with the occasional detour to a kabob shop) and not gain any weight.

  3. They've even missed the 10th anniversary without a nod or a whisper...

    Ooooh the frustration...
