Coronation Street Episode Monday 2nd November

Gary Windass, Maria Connor, Summer Spellman and Ross Wilkes in the prison visiting room in Coronation Street

"It's like an episode of Prisoners' Wives," says Maria to Summer as they wait for their men in the visitors' room, which goes above Summer's head. Well she was only nine when it finished. It feels like Gary's storyline, in these days of early-release, is purely to make the show into Prisoner Cell Block H (male wing), or to at least make use of the prison set, which I'm sure was built over the solicitor's office as Alya and laughing boy Adam have all their meetings in Roy's nowadays. Anyway, Summer has gone to visit Marco but he won't see her so she goes to Rotten Ross to ask for help. What is Ross up to? Is he going to start a Fight Club for money? Also, I'm not sure how much we're supposed to care about Marco, given that he was only in 2 eps before he was banged up and it's never been quite clear why Summer likes him so much. And is prison just hanging around playing pool? I thought gaol involved jobs, training, education, that kind of thing? Ross must agree as he gets Marco a cleaning job and starts messing with Gary's head, saying Maria was flirting with Idris in the pub.

Idris is a bit too busy for romance, as he is doing a little industrial espionage: firstly hanging about number 6 to listen to the Connor-Swain's conversation and then turning up at the hotel to spy on Carla and Michael's business meeting. Why does he want to own all of the businesses on the street anyway? I mean, apart from the short commutes? I'm sure other businesses in Weatherfield are available - I can't believe Sweety Nuff in the precinct is raking it in. What about that new deli on Rosalind street? Anyway, he ruins Carla's business meeting by telling the business geezer that Carla is bad news. I'm pretty sure they've done this "the factory is in trouble" storyline about 500 times before. Maybe they should go back to Michael's dads 'n' lads athleisurewear concept? That was the last time he had a storyline, it's about time he had another one.

In boring storylines, Daniel tells the extended Barlows that the Gazette is going to publish his article about the school field sell off. I'm sure Mrs Crawshaw might have something to say about this, namely: Cease and Desist. This seems to be purely to cause friction between Daniel and Adam.

In more prison news, Christina says she's going to get a visiting order to see Ritchie, who's presumably in the same chokey as Marco and Gary, so no new set is required.
