Preview of today's Coronation Street - Friday 16 May 2025

Friday 16 May 2025

KIT’S LIFE FLASHES BEFORE OUR EYES As Bernie calls at Kit’s flat, hoping he’ll open up to her about what’s bothering him, this special flashback episode focuses on Kit’s childhood as we see a young Kit finding himself on the wrong side of the law and we uncover what made him the man he is today. Three young actors take on the roles of Kit, Mick and Lou as we flick between their teenage years, the secrets that bind them together and their life as it is today.

Meanwhile following the fight between Gary and Mick, Maria and Lou row over the situation, each believing their own husband’s version of events. Gary and Maria confront Kit and accuse him of corruption. Kit retaliates by painting Gary as the villain, reminding him he was armed with a bottle. Bernie lets herself into Kit’s flat and remembering the photo she found in the bin, demands to know why he’s covering for Mick. Mick and Lou take Brody for a meal to celebrate his release from the STC.

  1. I can't help thinking that these scenes from the past are a bit unnecessary, really.
For older viewers, it's not that long ago, and the music, cars and fashion won't mean anything to them. So is it a stroll down memory lane for younger viewers? I'm not sure.
Mick and Lou haven't been on the street long and Kit is a relative newbie, so it's not as if any of them are long standing, established characters.
Even Bernie joined a few years ago!
I think it's a silly plot that leads to a mighty showdown fight, that will involve all of them, with Gary and Maria - and maybe Craig's death - next week.
Mick and Lou leave but I hope Kit goes too, as he's not really an endearing character.
I can't help thinking that they've brought in Mick and Lou to liven things up, for a brief time, but it hasn't worked, because the viewers don't like them.

  2. I think I'm what you'd class as an "older viewer", and I remember the music, cars and fashion perfectly well. It was a trip down memory lane for me, being a Salfordian myself. My son even had the AIG United top! My only gripe is that I wish they'd used a younger version of Bernie as well as teenage Kit, Mick and Lou

  3. The young actors were fantastic, but the rest of it was just... Awful. This was not good writing, this was not good storytelling.

  4. I totally agree. Young Mick was just as revolting 30 years ago. And who wrote that ridiculous line about Kit always being really tall, when the actor clearly wasn't?!
Impressive CGI on "young" Bernie! And why does Kit constantly go on about Bernie abandoning him, when he remembers her trying to see him 17 years ago? Bad writing, lack of continuity.
How long would Mick have served for the arson attack? Lou must have pulled the "premature baby" trick to convince Mick he was Brody's father. Also, Mick was hardly innocent. He lit the fireworks and enjoyed watching the explosion, unlike Kit.
If it were real life, and Kit seriously wants to be a good copper, he would do better to confess all to Lisa, as it's bound to come out. Then he might get away with a short sentence or community service, and a suspension from the police rather than dismissal.
But who cares? I am looking forward to Mick, Lou and Brody's departure. They are too horrible to be believable. Craig is no great loss either, now that the writers have ruined his character.

  5. I didn't care for the flashback, they could have at least had the guy who played kit have blue eyes....none of them looked remotely like they did 16 years ago. Poorly done I thought and a complete waste of time. Corrie has gone from fantastic storylines to rushing through things, lack of continuity...the writing is god-awful.

  6. I didn't mean to upset anyone if they could recall that year... I agree that this whole flashback story seems very rushed and not thought through properly. The people who play the young kit and lou have the wrong eye colour, for start! Hopefully, poor Dylan will have a better time of it now Brody has gone from the secure unit.
