Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 22 November 2024

Tonight I feel as though the White Queen from Through the Looking Glass has been sprinkling her magic across Weatherfield (given that she can believe 6 unbelievable things before breakfast) and hope that I can convey events as they happened.  Lisa awakes on Carla's couch which is normally where Ryan spends the night - but apparently he enjoyed being elsewhere last night as we are later told.  Lisa cannot remember trying to start a sing along with Bo Rap.  Carla gets her a sausage bap from Roys Rolls - Lisa asks if she can have another sleep before she goes home.  Ryan is surprised that Carla did not seize the moment last night - and points out that it might not be too late.  Carla returns to the flat and tells Lisa not to continue getting dressed and drags the acquiescent woman into the bedroom.

Mason survived the night and Betsy wants them to get closer - but Mason appears to have grown a conscience and tells her that once he is sorted then he will consider it.  Logan and Matty are watching Betsy like hawks.  They eventually corner her in the alley off Victoria Street.  She says Lisa will be worried so they tell her to send her mother a text which she does using a code to say that she is in danger and the post coital Carla and Lisa are soon searching the streets to find her - but Logan/Matty are telling her that she needs to ensure Mason knows where his loyalties lie; luckily Ryan passes the end of the ginnel and Betsy calls him over and the ne'er do wells are on their way, one of whom Ryan recognises.  Mason meets Betsy in Roys Rolls and he passes her a piece of patisserie prepared in college today - and also gives Roy (who is partial to mille-feuille) a piece for later - Betsy declares her piece is gorgeous.  She denies having seen Matty and Logan.

Max is out of the big house and it does not take him that long to discover that Lauren is inside due to his parents' efforts when Kit interviews him and shows him the letter he wrote to Lauren.  He tells Jit that Lauren hit Joel to save Max's life - but he is still going to be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice.  Max is not amused.  Initially it seems that Frankie might be joining Lauren - but is there another possibility?  Lauren phones Roy and Max joins the call - Lauren would like him to take on Frankie and he tells David and Shona that is what he wants to happen.  However no-one seems to have considered that Max will go down for his own illegal actions.

Leanne is down - Oliver's four year anniversary is approaching and in Roys Rolls R'Tracy is back in full-on gobby mode wanting confirmation that she will be testifying against cult boy (Rowan).  And helping to get Amy's money back.  A little later Steve is getting coffee when Cassie comes in and is pleased to hear that Ken will be home soon - he just had too much warfarin (a blood thinner rarely prescribed these days as it has been replaced by Rivaroxaban which is much safer) in his system.  Steve then gives Cassie a dressing down for giving him too many tablets and sacks her again.  R'Toyota is listening and once Cassie has gone explains how Tracy knocked the pills flying earlier in the week so it probably was not Cassie's fault (although the audience is shouting as one that it WAS Cassie).  Tracy is told to leave number 1 by Ken and not to darken his door again.  Cassie is soon re-instated at Number 1 with a pay rise BUT we then see her searching online for drugs to make people drowsy!  Steve apologises for earlier and the more glamourous Cassie we now have makes a point of gracious acceptance.

Leanne pops into the Bistro and almost catches Nick and Toyah kissing.  How many men have those two both enjoyed?  Since Toyah's return it is Peter, Imran and Nick - are there more?  Toyah is coming to point where she feels that the world needs to know.  So presumably all will become clear next week, probably on Oliver's anniversary.

Betsy espies that Lisa is wearing a "new" top which exactly matches one Carla wears and immediately works out that she spent last night in Carla's bed and punishes her mother's misdeeds by throwing water over her top.  Lisa and Carla seek to explain that did not happen yesterday, but today might be another story.  Betsy reckons a day's difference has no effect.  As a result Lisa and Carla argue as Lisa wants to put Betsy first, so it is all over already.  Betsy is contemplating the day in Victoria Gardens and Carla joins her to tell her how life really is - and that Betsy needs to grow up.  Betsy does not want a Becky to be replaced and she does not want Lisa to want anyone other than her.  Carla tells her that we get one short life each, so wring some joy out of it.  That life has gone - and Betsy needs to accept that and allow herself and by implication Lisa the chance to move on.

Betsy offers Matty and Logan a deal.  If they promise to leave Mason alone then she will arrange to get them keys whilst the staff are on a team building day and they can have their fill of brand new laptops etc.  She will let them in and it will be the easiest job ever.  The deal is agreed.

So I struggle to believe that Max would not think about his own jail sentence, that Matty and Logan think that Betsy really means it, that Toyah has changed her mind so quickly, that Cassie is still drugging Ken, that Carla is no longer entirely straight, that Tracy did not really know where the pills should go and defend herself, that Roy won't enjoy the pastry and offer Mason work.  As it is after breakfast I am allowed seven?  I almost certainly won't be here next week but should be back in two weeks time to bring you all up to date again.
