Not a Platt party! When did one of those go - and indeed end - well? If I were Nick I'd stop taking bookings for his family do's - if there isn't foodstuff on the wall by the end of the evening, then Gail's name isn't Potter-Tilsley-Platt-Hillman-McIntyre-Rodwell. It starts off as a gender reveal party (I'm with Daniel and Ken re: their opinion on this) but turns into a paternity reveal party as Adam gets the actual information about the baby-daddy from the private clinic and let's everyone else know via the media of balloon.
Sarah was foolish to go along with Uncy Stephen's forgery plan, but Adam was so happy that you can hardly blame her. The flashback, in which Stephen found the clinic's letter in the bin, seemed a little forced to me - Stephen wouldn't be interested in anything found in a bin, unless it was a hole-punch, but Sarah needed a confidante (neither Glenda or Deedee was available) so the story had to be ret-conned
Is this the end for the Platt-Barlow dynasty? Adam leaves Redbank with the sad: "Say goodbye to Harry". This is the same Harry who's been left alone in the flat whilst the whole family finds out about Sarah and Damon's baby?
There are two more parties in tonight's ep, both of them to commemorate lost loved ones. First up is Johnny, whose birthday it is today and the three women who loved him, plus Daisy, reconnoitre in the Rovers to raise a toast to him, despite Jenny's money worries for the pub.
BTW, is Carla still on the anti-psychotic drugs? That might account for someone who is reasonably IT literate posting a pic of Ryan's torso as well as the remembrance selfie, especially given that she managed to log out of Ryan's Friends Connect and log into her own account without problems. Ryan is distressed by this, despite the saucy comments from Weatherfield's hot singles community. He has managed to make up with Daisy, although he says: "We'll never be mates". Boffing by Christmas then?
I understand Ryan's reasons for wanting to hench up, but the steroid story seems to have come from nowhere. Might it have been better for Ryan to decide that he wanted to become ripped, then get frustrated that it was taking too long and turn to the Bad Drugs? Also I feel a bit sorry for actor Ryan who's had to become beefy for this bigorexia storyline.
The other remembrance day is for Sunita, who I don't think anyone's mentioned for ten years. Dev's other half, Bernie, and Asha's girlfriend, Nina, are there, but no sign of Ms Scouse McBoobs, strangely enough. Despite being fully paid up members of Gen Z, neither Nina or Asha knows how to get rid of a lens flare on a digital photo and so Bernie reckons it's the aura of Sunita looking over them. I'm not sure how religious the Alahan family are (I'm going with: Not Very) but Hindus believe in reincarnation. Sunita died in Apr 2013, the two cobbles babies born later in 2013 were Jake Windass and Lily Platt. Could Sunita have been reincarnated in either of those two?
Oh and there's also some stuff with Eliza, who's upset because her mum has been moved to a different prison. To be honest, I'd forgotten Eliza existed. I liked her character when she was a foil to the devil child Hope's more nefarious plots, but she suffers in being related to Boring Stu, so I find it hard to care.

Great post.
ReplyDeleteAdam mentioned a babysitter for Harry early in the episode, although I admit it grates when you see parents of youngsters supping pints in the pub.
We don't know who's looking after their kids, and it isn't mentioned.
Courtney is away on a cruise with her hubby.
I fear that Stu and Eliza's day are numbered, hence the carefully paced gaping differences between Yasmeen and Stuart's interests and hobbies.
I never thought they gelled well as a couple and Stu would be better off with someone more down to earth, like Eileen or Gail.
(or Cathy, if she ever returns).
But Eileen's coupled up and there hasn't been a love interest for Gail for a long time.
Stu's had a good run- what did he do with his hefty compensation - can anyone remind me?
I'm looking forward to the 'rovers in trouble' story line.
In reality, a boozer like this would have closed years ago. I hope they re-launch it with a new decor and a new menu - but the same name.
I have a feeling that Gemma's posh ex may be come involved... Henry newton, is it?
I don't feel sorry for Sarah who should have known better than to go along with Uncle Stephen's scheme and lie to her husband again!
ReplyDeleteIt's Harry I feel sorry for as he bonded with his stepdad Adam and will lose another father figure.
I also feel sorry for Ken who was lied to about Eva's daughter Susie being his granddaughter by Toyah and now Sarah was trying to pass off Damon's child as his first great grandchild
I don't have strong feelings about the paternity storyline, mainly because Sarah bores me rigid. The character has no depth: she's selfish and childish. As in real life, if this is someone you can walk away from, eventually that's what you do. I can walk away from Sarah so I just find her tedious. I wish she thought it might be best to start a new life with Damon.
ReplyDeleteNo need to feel sorry for actor Ryan, who has been a keen gym user for years; it’s the same gym as is favoured by the actors playing Daniel and Aadi, two characters whose physical transformation has been notable but entirely unexplained.
