With little Elsie now out of the way, this Corrie fan is left to forever wonder whether the lass was a distant relative perhaps, a great-granddaughter even, of street legend, Elsie Tanner? I'm perhaps overthinking it with my Corrie brain, but I would have liked that. I imagine Toyah would have to, or at least her family unit stays together, rather than being torn apart from her foster child by Imran's non-marital infidelity. Tonight, the solicitor may not be attending court but his behaviour would suggest otherwise. He starts by preening Abi, for his son Alfie’s sake, but by the end of the episode, he's completely changed his legal angle and slammed the gavel down on Abi's motherhood. Imran sees his other one-time foster child, Kelly, and is told all about Abi’s handling of Kelly’s Mum’s morphine. Soon, he is at Abi's flat and is quick to rife through the bedsit for evidence. It certainly sets a tone for some unsavoury accusations between the pair: Abi’s addiction past is never far from the surface, and Imran cleverly uses that as a ruse to push a legal claim for access and full custody of Alfie (your honour).
By the end of tonight, the scene is surely set for another courtroom showdown, and bizarrely, Toyah has also done a full soapy u-turn and gets back with Imran, but is it all as it seems? We know that she’s long longed for a child, and sadly, she is baron, but is she that desperate? My favourite scene of tonight was that short chat she had with Sarah in Underworld’s offices. Those two share scenes quite often but it was nice to see just the two of them in the office. Sarah sharing her vulnerability and past baby woes with Toyah was a real treat. Could these two be future Corrie BFFs? It was also good tonight to see Leanne weigh into Toyah’s decision making, and that ‘crack baby’ line had me laughing out loud. That's my sense of humour for you, sorry. By the way, I like Abi's new flat but I’m sure that set was previously dead old Ted’s flat and Laura’s flat too. Foreshadowing, perhaps?
I’m also enjoying watching Gary’s (murderous) guilt manifest itself in a variety of ways! Kelly’s recently acquired orphan status, and preparation of her parent’s criminal funerals, are pricking Maria’s recently acquired councillor conscience. You’d think she’d be concerned that her (pseudo) foster daughter's attending counselling, and the emotional weight of it, but hey ho, that's Maria for you. Her transformation into a modern-day Audrey is gathering pace. I'm joking!...maybe. Anyway, Gary is quick to defend Kelly’s cause and case, which reminds me of another story strand, here. Gary and Imran are connected by Kelly, and those two have had confrontations in the past, haven't they? I’d like to see Gary confront Imran over Kelly perhaps, engineered plotting even, where Gary shuts the solicitor up, and for good, permanently? That's the manifestation I'm hoping for, anyway. We know Imran is leaving (spoiler alert) which has got me thinking just how he will go...
Last week, it transpired that Faye wasn't pregnant, Emma vacated their flat, and Craig rejoined the force (the police that is, he's not a Jedi knight). Things change very fast in Weatherfield these days! Tonight, Faye seems keen on trying for a baby again, only for Craig to confide in Beth that he’s not ready for Fatherhood yet. His return to the force is taking precedence - sensible chap. Anyway, Beth is quick to relay this confession to her Son's girlfriend, only for Faye to agree it's too soon to try for a baby. Is this the beginning of more meddling from Beth? I do enjoy seeing her on-screen, she's like a leopard print Janice Battersby! Also, does Kirk think Carla has a crush on him or is it, Sarah?
Elsewhere tonight - Daniel’s distracted by Mrs Crawshaw's continuing emotional breakdown, arranging a school trip, and Nicky’s new teaching job. Summer’s over-attentive studying continues to worry Billy.
A good hour tonight, I enjoyed it. What did you think?

I'm finding both Toyah and Imran and Craig and Fay irritating.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Toyah re- unite with Imran? It doesn't make much sense to me. She sounded as if she was sick and fed- up with him - then suddenly, she's declaring undying love.
I guess Craig and Fay are supposed to be a young, sensible couple and that why they're kept in. But they're hardly compelling are, they?
I'm not that invested in their pregnancy/ non pregnancy plot.
But Fay is so drippy, I can't imagine her being suited to a dynamic sales position.
Daniel's charm apparently, stretches far and wide - his pupil Summer had a crush on him and now it's a teacher's turn! Then there's Nicky and Daisy... he'll be setting up his own fan club soon.
Why was Laura in a small bedsit when she had a perfectly good house to live in?
I assume that if Gary does murder Imram is because Imram found out the truth about his sister's Rana's death not because of Kelly.
ReplyDeleteSince we 've already seen the extreme lengths that Toyah will go to to have a child when she kept Susie for herself and showed no guilt in Aidan's suicide or denying a grieving Johnny his only grandchild, perhaps Toyah murders Imram to ensure she gets full custody of Alfie?
Surely Toyah would be "baroness" rather than "baron" - lol!
ReplyDeleteJeanie: I'm predicting Toyah helps Imran to get custody of Alfie, then boots out Imran and keeps Alfie for herself. Foreshadowed in her comments about how being good is bring the only one to keep to the rules while others lie and scheme.
ReplyDeleteFaye and Cringy are young yes, sensible...naw....they hid a murder and lied about it which is not a great thing if you're supposed to be on the law's side.....Who knows why they're kept in, they're the most boring couple alive. What's up with Craig/Cringe's breathing? They're a weird couple and Faye is as dull as dishwater/unlikeble to boot
ReplyDeleteThat sounds a tad harsh Bobby Dazzler but, you know, I agree with everything you have written. Bring back Peter and Carla...couple dynamism! These youngsters story lines are awful, full of woe and angst. Perhaps young people in the real world are troubled, but it is not my experience. So many teenagers with woeful lives in Corrie. We need light relief in this troubled world.
DeleteIf Corrie is appealing to younger viewers I honestly cannot see how regurgitating pregnancies, deaths of parents, etc is helping the young. Do they really feed off a diet of emotional and mental angst and then turn to substances, denial, eating disorders. OMG, I am glad I sailed through my teen years, fairly innocent and happy.
We haven't seen Carla and Peter for ages, have they left the show?
DeleteBaron= peer, similar to duke, earl
ReplyDeleteBarren= unable to bear children
Thanks DavidA. I didn't dare say that in case it was a deliberate mistake or joke!
ReplyDelete@Abercrombie...yes, I thought I was too harsh, but of course didn't realize it until after I had said I wasn't a robot.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know what the younger people are up to now a days, especially on a street like Corrie. Would they have the cash these kids have to throw around, the latest gear?? I dunno.
Guess being a kid in 2022 isn't as great as they'd have us believe.
Apropos your last line, this may well be true. Thanks for your thoughtful response.
