Tonight on TV! Maureen Lipman in one-woman play, Rose

The sublime Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn in Coronation Street, is starring in a one-woman play called Rose, which airs on Sky Arts tonight (Wednesday 27 January) at 10pm.

Streamed via Hope Mill Theatre last year, Maureen Lipman plays Rose in the production, which will be presented on TV tonight.

Recorded in summer 2020 Rose follows a Jewish woman who grows up in a Russian village in the early twentieth-century. Travelling around the world, Rose finds herself in different communities, all tolerating Judaistic influences at varying levels.

Made a dame in 2020 for services to charity, entertainment and the arts, Maureen Lipman was a part of Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre company in the 1970s. In recent years, Lipman’s West End credits include The Best Man at the Playhouse Theatre and When We Are Married at the Garrick Theatre.

Rose premiered at the National Theatre in 1999, starring Olympia Dukakis.

  1. I watched this the first time it was streamed from the Hope Mill Theatre. It is a very moving production and Maureen Lipman is superb. It's being show again today to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
