Coronation Street today unveils its official 60th anniversary cast photograph to celebrate the programme reaching this broadcasting milestone.
And there has never been a cast image quite like it!
The shot had to be taken adhering to the Government’s health and safety guidelines for TV and film production and the covid protocols and measures introduced by the programme which meant all of the actors in the portrait were photographed at different times.
Previous photography to celebrate the show’s big milestones has featured all the cast, starting with the famous black and white shot to launch the first episode.
With the pandemic meaning that large gatherings are not possible a decision was taken to represent the show by photographing the first seven of the current cast to join the soap alongside the most recent seven actors to have appeared on screen as a regular cast member.*
Over a period of two weeks the actors were photographed individually in a covid secure studio and then cleverly photoshopped to give the impression of being together.
Finally with a nod to the show’s history Hilda Ogden’s iconic ducks from her ‘muriel’ were added to the image, complete with wonky middle one!

Great photo...just sad at all the omissions, or is there to be a series of shots? To include the undertaker’s son and Todd 2 but not Dame Maureen is criminal!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been stated in other news agencies that the picture is supposed to show the 7 oldest cast members and the 7 newest, hence no Dame Maureen, so no need to be offended
DeleteThank you...yes, that's logical and explains it all!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit interesting to see who they considered to be the newest regular cast members. This must have been taken before they cast the new Summer. I take it Edison started before Aggie and Michael. They also didn't include returning acctors like Rachel Leskovac.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder if actors like Paul Copley who plays Arthur or Mark Frost, who plays Ray is long for the Street.
(I am kind of a cast card collector)
From what I have read; they have included actors on full time 12 month contracts which is why guest characters like Ray, Kelly or Debbie haven’t been included.
ReplyDeleteSince Todd has been on the Street for a while,I don't think it's fair that the new actor who portrays Todd is featured in the photo when I doubt Bruno Langley would have been included[if he wasn't arrested] in the photo.
ReplyDeleteWhy couldn't Emma be featured instead of Todd 2 or Bernie as one of the newer members?
She is linked to a legacy family, the Barlows.
Chrissy 2005- How can you know if the upcoming characters are guests or are on contract? There are so many new characters and unless it is outright stated like if it is a new family, they don't mention if the character is on contract.
ReplyDeleteDo we know that Debbie is a guest character?
