These are the first pics of runaway Todd Grimshaw as he returns to Weatherfield almost 3 years after disappearing from the cobbles.
Todd, now played by Gareth Pierce, will first be seen back on Coronation Street in the autumn but the seeds of his return are sown next week (August 19th) when a letter arrives in the post from the ex-solicitor asking for money.
With Eileen away in Thailand, visiting her other son Jason, the letter is opened by Mary and Sean who break the news to Todd’s former partner Vicar Billy Mayhew. The trio then embark on a manhunt to try and track him down.
The last time viewers saw Todd was in late 2017 when he fled Weatherfield with Billy’s goddaughter Summer after her grandmother Geraldine attempted to gain custody of the girl. When they were tracked down by the police, Todd assaulted a police officer and ran off on his own.
Where has Todd been hiding, why does he need the cash and why doesn’t he want to be found? The letter starts months of intrigue and mystery until Todd finally breaks cover, much to the relief of mum and friends.
Welsh born Gareth Pierce is the second actor to be cast as Todd Grimshaw, the role was previously played for 16 years by Bruno Langley.
Gareth is best known for his roles as Lenny Mack in Sky 1's Stella and Gavin Moss in The Archers. He also starred in Ordinary Lies and Hinterland for BBC.
Gareth said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show, and to have been entrusted with taking Todd forward into some really exciting storylines. It’s an honour to be part of the dedicated Coronation Street team in such unprecedented times.”

Before any negative comments, let’s give the actor a chance and not judge him before we have even seen him on the street. He doesn’t look like the previous Todd but as long as he has Todd’s essence and chemistry with the rest of the cast, then the looks wouldn’t matter as much. Judge him on what he can control
ReplyDeleteMy issue isn't with bringing Todd back with a new actor, my issue is why reprise Todd at all? Like is it really necessary?
ReplyDeleteI say this because lately Corrie's character developement has been sorely lacking. They keep introducing all these new characters and have no idea what to do with them (Nina, the Baileys, Alina, Paul, Ray - what real purpose do they serve?).
So I hope they have an actual storyline in mind for Todd that extends beyond his return because otherwise they'll be adding yet another unecessary character to an already oversized cast.
Billy and Paul have got boring. Todd will return to create a love triangle and he's short of cash so he will probably get involved in some dodgy dealings, perhaps with Gary.
ReplyDeleteA storyline for Todd sounds good, but can we please get rid of Geoff, Gemma, Gary, Sarah Pratt and The Baileys!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for Todd making a return but it's time to weed out some of the deadwood: Gemma, Chesney, Bernie, Maria, Gary, Sarah, the Baileys, Seb, Kevin, Alina, Izzy, Paul, Tyrone, Fizz...
ReplyDeleteToo many bland, pointless characters clogging up screentime. The cast is so big there's at least 50 characters per household, it's a joke.
If you remove all those characters, then you'll hardly have a cast, as the over 70's and children cannot be filmed at this moment in time.
DeleteI think the only reason that Todd is returning is to justify a storyline for Eileen who I think is becoming another deadwood character as she hasn't been sen too much at all except to side with Yasmeen after she was arrested for assaulting Geoff.
ReplyDeleteI really do hope the writers do not have a love triangle storyline with Billy.Paul and Todd as that storyline has become tedious especially now with Gary,Sarah and Adam.
